MUA Eyes $24.3 Million Grants

SWAINTON - The Cape May County MUA has submitted a grant application to the New Jersey Depart ment of Environmental Protection for the construction of secondary treatment facilities for the Wildwood/Lower Service Region. Executive Director George Marinakis announced recently The total grant eligible cost for the Segment II project is $28.9 million, of which $13.2 million represents the CMCMUA's request for federal grant funding at the 55 per cent level THE GRANT application also requests approval of a supplemental grant in the amount of $401,353. or 20 per cent of the costs of the sludge handling facilities "Because of the authority's decision to utilize a relatively new invessel sludge composting process, all of our sludge related facilities have been determined to qualify as 'Innovative Technology' under the federal construction grants program,' Marinakis explained "Until we were able to secure a commitment from the NJDEP for grant funding for the secondary treatment segment, we were planning to first build the primary treatment segment and later, add the secondary treatment facilities Now we will build the complete facility that will be providing the level of treatment normally required by federal and state law ACCORDING TO Marinakis, by combining the two segments under a
