Navigation Aid Change Under Fire WASHINGTON. DC - Congressman Bill Hughes (DNJ) has expressed concern about a proposal by the administration to con tract out the maintenance responsibility for naviga tional aids along the New Jersey Intracoastal Water way During a hearing of the House Subcommittee on the Coast Guard. Hughes questioned Adm. James Gracey, commandant of the Coast Guard, about the proposal to shift the maintenance activities for navigational aids from the Coast Guard to the private sector He warned that the plan could impair safety along this key New Jersey waterway without achtevmg any meaningful savings to the federal budget "It may well be that some aspects of the aids to navigation mission can be transferred to the private sector without disrupting the overall program, the South Jersey lawmaker said However. I am extremely concerned about the cost -effectiveness of this proposal, Its potential impact on the boating in dustry in New Jersey, and other issues such as federal liability for contractors' negligence in maintaining aids " 2 Trips Set By Educators A New York City theater trip and an eight -day Canadian vaction trip are planned by the Cape May County Educators Association The New York trip is scheduled for April 11-13 and includes admission to "Chorus Line" and Liberace Show The Canadian trip.
