The association was grateful for the many hours local PTA president Denise Coulter spent in organizing the affair OUR TOWNSHIP'S traf fic safety committee is be ginning its second year and is responsible for making recommendations on improving the traffic standards in our township. It is presently working on a proposal to implement the laying of sidewalks throughout various areas. The committee meets
township clerk's office at 465-5107 Middle Township High School Students Art Kelly, Lee Ann Mcllvaine, and Nancy Dramis, along with advisor Sam Brewer, represented the local Key Club at an interclub meeting between Divisions 1 and 2 recently in Clayton. Key Club members and Kiwanians from- Cape May. Cumberland. Atlantic, and Gloucester counties attended this event, hosted by the Clayton Key Club. Guest speaker was New Jersey District Administrator Mike Adamski, who spoke about the duties and importance of the Key Club. Also in attendance were Lieutenant Governors Ed Webb from Division 1. Elizabeth Furth from Division 5b. and Vincent Voltaggio from Division 2 Over 100 people attended. THE ORATORICAL Contest sponsored by the Middle Township Optimist Club was held March 26 at Middle Township High School Jim Moore won first place for the boys. The girls' first place winner was Katie Judson. second place winner was Valessa Rocke, and the runner-up was Christin Dodd. Students in John Sowa's accelerated freshman English class entered the contest. The students were assigned a topic and prepared speeches that were delivered in front of the class. Three women from various parts of the county judged the entrants in this contest Sowa and Phil Heck were the co-advisors. Middle Towaship Optimist Club Vice-President Bud Keen acted as contest chairman The contest was open to all ninth grade English students The first place winners will each receive a $100 United States Savings bond The girls' second place winner will receive a $50 bond Moore and Judson will compete in the zone competition with entrants from all South Jersey at the High School April 20 M A D D representative Frank Vassallo was the guest speaker at the Middle Township School Key Club meeting March 26 He told the Key club members, parents, and Kiwaniaas that alcohol depresses the central nervous system and that thousands are killed needlessly each year due to drunk drivers. Vassallo also spoke about the formation of a S.A.D.D. (Students Against Drunk Driving) chapter in the Middle Towaship Key Club. Key Club members Randy Wolford and Donna Schulz hope to form such a chapter soon Lower Cape May Regional and Wildwood Catholic High Schools currently have S.A.D.D chapters. THE MIDDLE Township Chamber of Commerce is ordering benches to be placed at various locations throughout Court House The chamber will pay for this entire program About 100 children signed up for the five-week after school Enrichment Program. The Middle Township Elementary 1 chairperson in this program is Adele Gouse. The following courses are being taught: Backyard Nature by Paula
Bazis. grades 1 to 3 ; Square Dancing by Dot Wheeler, grades 1 to 3; and Beginning Conversational by Kathy Newdeck. grades kindergarten to 1. The program's Elementary 3 chairperson is Terry Wells. A computer course and a bird identification course are being taught by Agnes Maroszek and Renee Kochenderger respectively Both courses are for grades 4 to 5 Two pieces of playground equipment will be installed by the Recreation Department at the Goshen Road Sports Complex this week The multi-station wooden equipment will blend well with the complex's natural landscaping The Middle Township Recreation Department needs volunteers; One or two people are needed to act as soccer coach. Assistant coaches and team mothers are also needed Experience is not necessary, as clinics will be available to train volunteers. STUDENT-MADE model home projects covering different periods of time from the stone ages to the 21st Century are currently on display in Mrs. Audrey Spaulding's fifth grade class at Elementary School No 3. This social studies project was an extended lesson after studying colonial homes and lifestyles of the early settlers.
