Diagnostic Center Gets Honor
COURT HOUSE - The Jersey Cape Diagnostic and Opportunity Center. Inc recently was presented with an award as the "Outstanding Rehabilitation Facility in New Jersey". The presentation from the New Jersey Association of Rehabilitative Facilities was made at an annual awards luncheon in Cherry Hill March 29. The center, founded by Mrs. Frances E. Goetz of Ocean City, is beginning its 12th year of services. It has serviced more than 500 disabled people since its opening in January, 1974. Currently, Roy Gilliam is president of the board of directors and George J. Plewa is executive director. THE CENTER was cited for its efforts in securing local, state and federal support for its "ocational programs as well as its pioneering efforts in the manufacture of beach tags, accessibility signs for the disabled, and the development of its recycling service. In addition, it has been instrumental in legislative efforts and in particular the passage of Senate Bill S-906. introduced by Sen. James Hurley, which exempts rehabilitation a centers employing han dicapped people from state Middle Program For Cats COURT HOUSE Mayor Michael Voll has announced a program for the neutering/ spaying of cats in the Township of Middle The program will work in conjunction with the Animal Welfare Society of Cape May County. Inc (SWS). Route 47, Dias Creek The major has noticed an increase of injured and dead cats along roadways throughout the township. A meeting was held with Cass Clark of AWS and the, township committee Mrs Clark explained that the problem is due to the fact that there are so many cats running loose and people cannot afford to have them neutered or spayed. THE TOWNSHIP com mittee felt it had a moral obligation to look out for the welfare of these animals and to assist animal owners. The committee has granted $1,250 to assist to AWS in the program to help control the cat population The cost involved for the neutering of a male cat is $10 and $15 for the spaying of a female cat. To be eligible for this program the animal owner must have a restricted income, be able to furnish proof of residency in Middle Township and have a healthy cat. Clark has convinced .the township committee that this will eliminate the problem of Unwanted cats in the future. this award than with any other recognition we've ever received before." Plewa said. "This is because I believe it is a tribute to all the people that have been part of our team effort over the years. They include, the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders, our board of directors, the business community, the cooperating social service agencies, the state Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, the state Division of Mental Retardation and perhaps most of all, our staff."
