Wildwood News Notes
(From Page 15) ago, belting out the lyrics to "Harper Valley HomeSchool Association"? Just doesn't have a ring to it, does it? THE GLENWOOD Avenue Elementary School has established the dates for the registration of students altering kindergarten in September '85. If you live within the confines of Wildwood proper and have a child who Will be 5 years old before Oct. 1, 1985, registration is mandatory. You may do so April 15 through April 19 between 9 a.m. and noon, and from 1 to 3 p.m. You are asked to report to the school at Glenwood and New York Avenues during this period, and kindly bring along your child's birth certificate and immunization records. • • • ALWAYS A SAGE and resourceful businessman, Jack Holland, one of proprietors of the family operated Texaco station in Wildwood Crest, is steadfastly adhering to his longrange goal of reducing his labor costs. He and his wife, Karen, have just announced the birth of another son. This brings the total to two and should complement his business efforts nicely in about 15 years, unless, of course, he has designs on establishing his own sec-retarial-management staff for the years to come. The various political races throughout the Wildwoods have taken shape. In the school board elections, all municipalities have candidates running unopposed, with Wildwood as the exception. In the municipal elections, Wildwood has 11 candidates competing for the four available positions, while in Wildwood Crest incumbents John Pantalone and Charles "Chick" Guhr have added Dr. Harvey Strair to their slate. The remaining incumbent,. Frank McCall, has teamed-- up with Robert Young, and George Denham has filed and will be running as an independent. THE RECENT decision to rescind the 10 percent excise tax on promotional liter-
ature going into Canada is being enthusiastically greeted throughout the Wildwoods. Since 1983, Canada has taxed all promotional literature being shipped into the Dominion. This tax made it prohibitive for local promotional groups to supply the Canadian tourist With accommodation directories and promotional booklets. The result has been a rather unstable Canadian trade, - which in previous years was estimated to encompass 20 per cent of the entire Five Mile . Beach tourism industry. The application of paint, however appealing the color, by means of an aerosal can to the sides of an already tastefully painted structure is just plain dumb! This is precisely why many residents are applauding Wildwood Councilman Ed Herman's one-man war against grafitti. Tile past few years have seen an ever increasing amount of the "dumb stuff being applied to buildings throughout Wildwood, and invariably, it reminds one of the city blight that we have each chosen to escape by moving to the "Shore". It certainly looks as if North Wildwood will be the host community for the Temple University Graduate School filming of the movie Wildwood: The Movie. The film, rumored to be starring Veronica Hamei and Norman Fell, will be filmed on location in North Wildwood, this season. The cooperation offered by the North Wildwood Tourism Commission and the city fathers has been excellent and this seems to be one of the reasons for the site decision. It is also understood that George Yensick, a member of the Tourism Commission from North Wildwood. has volunteered to act as an extra in any scenes that will feature Hamel, of Hill Street Blues fame. George always opts fo the "tough" jobs when they need to be done
