Middle Sets July 6 Gala

COURT HOUSE - Middle Township's thrid annual Independence Day Celebration is scheduled for July 6 at the Goshen Sports Complex. This year's theme "Heritage Day" will focus on this area's Indian heritage, said Township Committeeman Charles Leusner Indian dance, artifacts and crafts will be featured. There will also be family oriented events, games, a Phillies Home Run Derby, a concert and fireworks at dusk Historical Soc. Youngsters Take 'Chew Chew' Trip

COURT HOUSE - Ocean Academy students caught the 9:15 train. Cape May County Vocational School's "Chew Chew Express." March 19 Carol O'Hara. Child Care Services instructor. greeted students and directed them to view an introductory slide show. "The Snacking Mouse".— Then they traveled from one car to another doing hands-on learning activities related to good nutrition. In the dining car, preschoolers buzzed with excitement as they prepared and ate healthysnacks such as milk shakes, hard boiled eggs and peanut butter celery sticks. Moving down the line, two voca-

tional school students operated puppets to talk to preschoolers about the four basic food groups. The next car offered, students the challenge of choosing a healthy diet from cut-out magazine pictures of food and pasting them on a paper plate. Vocation students measured and recorded preschoolers heights and weights in a separate car. Finally, preschoolers vis- , ited the tooth car. Voca- , tional School students ex- , plained what helps teeth stay healthy and showed the , youngsters correct brushing , techniques. Each preschooler chugg- , ed home with a bag filled with the day's projects.

In addition to the top prize, 15 other valuable prizes can be won. Other funds come from private donations, the sale of refreshments that day and a $1,570 grant awarded the recreation department by the state Division of Travel and Tourism. Egg Hunt At Center COURT HOUSE - An Easter Egg Hunt will be held on the grounds of the - Cape May Care Center (located behind the County Museum) 2 p.m. Saturday. Prizes will be awarded for the most eggs found by children in the following age categories: Children between l and 4. children between 5 and 7: and children between 8 and 12. Any child between the age of 1 and 12 is invited to participate in the festivities. Cake and ice cream will be served following the hunt. For more information, call Gail 465-7633. Poetry Contest OCEAN CITY The Cape-Atlantic Writer's Club will sponsor a poetry contest for residents of Cape May and Atlantic Counties., age 18 and up. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place as well as two honorable mentions. These prizes will be awarded Saturday. May 4, at the city's spring block party. The theme of the contest will be "The Beauty of the Seashore." All poems must be original, previously unpublished. reflect the theme of the seashore and may be in any form of poetry up to 24 lines in length. Entries are due by Friday April 26. None will be judged after this date. A fee will be required and accept two entries per person will be accepted. Entry fee of $1 is payable to Rhonda M. Weinberg. Each entry must include the author's name, address and phone number and be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of the submissions.
