Incumbents Toppled In 3 School Districts
Challengers unseated incumbents in three of the county's 16 school districts with non-partisan board elections last week, and voters approved each district's 1985-'86 finances. Unseated were: Wildwood's Elaine Vignola, 45, city zoner and motel owner who's running for a city council seat in next month's municipal election; Lower Township's Debi de la Cretaz, 31, homemaker, regular GOP commit tee woman and treasurer of the local party's 1985 cam paign committee; and Milton F Wood of Upper Township's school board. Incumbents and some newcomers stood unopposed in Avalon, Cape May Point, Dennis and Middle townships, North Wildwood. Stone Harbor. West Cape May, West Wildwood. Sea Isle City's board is appointed by the mayor and its finances handled in the municipal budget Following are election results from the districts with candidate races: CAPE MAY - John Daly, 71, a contractor, and homemaker Kay Douglass won reelection with 233 and 220 votes, respectively Challenger Margaret Markley, a retired telephone company manager, won the third three-year seat, with 230 votes, over former board president Robert LeMu nyon, 59, a retired postal worker, who received 118. LOWER TOWNSHIP — Ralph E. Bakley Sr.. 52, a Cape May patrolman, and Donald J. Sheehan, 37, a Wildwood Crest detectivesergeant. won reelection with 416 and 393 votes, respectively. De la Cretaz, their unofficial running mate, finished last with 263 votes. One vote separated winner and loser (301-300) in the bid for de la Cretaz's board seat. Builder Richard P Burke, 32. came out ahead. But fourth-place condidate Dorothy Crawford, 35, a county clerk-typist, wants the election overturned and de la Cretaz's alleging political dirty tricks. LOWER CAPE MAY REGIONAL (Cape May. West Cape May and Lower Township) — William H. Hevener, 38, a Middle Township police lieutenant, won one of Lower's six seats on the board from Villas builder and township zoner John McGraw, 42, by a 327-287 margin.
Unopposed incumbents William E. Hutchinson. 44. an assistant manager with NJ Bell, and Stephen P. Todd collected 182 and 192 votes, respectively, for Cape May's two board seats. West Cape May's single seat on the ninemember board was filled last year.. OCEAN CITY - In the five-way race for three seats, winners were: Jeanne L. Gorman, 47. board vice president; board member Gerard M. Walker, a private investigator; and Joseph a. Iudica Jr., 33, a stockbroker. They collected 376, 281 and 380 votes, respectively, to 163 for Williain E Good and 154 for Ronald F. Hutchinson, , 41, a selfemployed handyman. UPPER TOWNSHIP — Challenger Joanne Tropeano, 42. a teacherhomemaker, was the top vote-getter (323) in the four-way race for three three-year seats. Incumbent Diana L. Bonner. 32, a homemaker. and challenger C. Edward Town Jr., collected 297 and 257 votes, respectively. Co-owner of Family Video Inc. and an Atlantic Electric lineman. Town, 36, nudged out incumbent Milton F. Wood who finished last with 228 votes. Eugene R. Chojnacki, 39, a squadron commander with the state Air National Guard, garnered 280 votes in his unopposed bid for an unexpired one-year term. WILDWOOD - William L Mitchell. 440, a patrolman, and Robert P. Dietz, 40, a mechnical
engineer, won reelection with 344 and 229 votes, respectively. With 336 votes, challenger Georgia Harris, 58. an assistant program director for Project Head Start, captured the third three-year seat from incumbent Vignola. She, and another May candidate for city council. Curtis A. Miller. 45. director of Wildwood Community Center, drew 181 and 204 votes; respectively.
