Longwood Gardens On Wetlands Tour

STONE HARBOR, - The flowers that bloom in the spring at Longwood Gardens and Hagley Museum will be the destination of a special Brandywine bus trip provided by the Wetlands Institute on Tuesday. April. 30. Spectacular floral displays are a year-round attraction of the 350-acre Longwood facility, which was part of a William Penn land grant in 1700. An Italian water garden built A Canadian Vacation Trip An eight-day Canadian vacation tour May 11-18 will be sponsored by the Retired Educators Association of Cape May County. The group will then proceed to the Hagley Museum, where 19th century life on the Brandywine is recreated in mill buildings, the first du Pont home, exhibits and demonstrations. A RESTORED Frenchstyle garden on the 230 acres of landscaped grounds surrounding the museum will be viewed. Hagley store offers books, gifts and reproductions for shoppers. This Wetlands Institute group tour will depart Hagley Museum at 4:30 and arrive at Jamesway in Cape May Court House at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served on the return bus trip. Luncheon Begins Year of Wetlands

STONE HARBOR. - Potential volunteers will celebrate International Year of the Wetlands at a kick-off luncheon at the Wetlands Institute noon Wednesday, April 17. in the Marshview Lecture Hall. There will be no charge for the luncheon and every interested person is invited. The institute needs volunteers to help man its Tidepool Shop, fold and stuff for general mailings, serve as hosts and hostesses for special events, give secretarial assistance and lend a hand with special maintenance and painting jobs. A VOLUNTEER Association, new this year, will be formed and will elect its own chairman The chairman will be invited to sit on the institute's board of trustees for one year Training workshops will be held for new volunteers so that the institute's film presentations and quided salt marsh walk can be made available to the general public this summer as well as to the many school and scout groups which visit here THE WORKSHOPS and nature guide program may be of especial interest to retired teachers Concert At Pier OCEAN CITY - The South Jersey Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Samuel Muni, will present a concert 8 p.m Friday. May 10. at the Music Pier here. The program, which will be given on a six-concert tour, will include Beethoven's Egmont Overtare. Debussy's Afternoon of a Faun, and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 In connection with the orchestra. the newly forming South Jersey Symphony Orchestra League will hold a meeting 7 p.m. Monday. The International Year of the Wetlands will be the focus of a one-day celebration at the institute June 8. The new Volunteer Association can be entirely in charge of this event. Anyone who would like to join this group who will be learning about the flora and fauna of the coastal environment while helping the institute a few hours each week, is asked to call 368-1211 and reserve lunch.

Cape Kids To Perform In Philly PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Dance Alliance held auditions for tap dancers recently to select dancers to perform at their fundraising gala. "Hot Cha at the Two Bit", May 10. A number of dancers will be joining Maurice Hines and Mercedes Ellington and a cast of 14 tappers for the extravaganza. Two youngsters. Steven Galman and Brandi Ratigan. of Villas and Wildwood Crest, auditioned and were selected. They will rehearse on Sundays prior to the May performance. The gala will be held at the Philadelphia Athletic Club. Steven and Brandi auditioned with over 200 other dancers Both youngsters are members of the Joanne Reagan Dance studio "Mini Company" and have been performing in the area for several years.
