Methodists Slate Dedication Services

AVALON — Dedication services for the new educational wing and offices of the Methodist Church, will be at the 11 a.m. Morning Worship Service. Sunday. Light refreshments will be served at the reception following the service, along with a tour of the new wing and offices.

District Superintendent George T. Wang, and his wife. Jetty, will be present, at the service, and will greet members and guests at the reception Nursery will b? provided during Morning Worship. Sunday School for all ages will be held at 9:30 a.m.

The first Avalon Methodist Church was built in 1892. It was the first church built on the island. The church still stands at 1st Avenue and 32nd St. It was originally called the Peermont Community Church. Later it became known as the First Methodist Church of Avalon. It was dedicated Aug. 7. 1892. There were 20 original members. It was then the only Protestant Church open all year. The Rev. Archie Cook, was pastor. The church has been converted into a home, but remains the

same in appearance from the outside. In 1963. plans were made to build a new church at 34th Street and Dune Drive, the present site. Services there began in early 19ft.

Missionary Message GREEN CREEK - Guest speakers at Green Creek Community Church Sunday will be Pat and Dorry Ryan, missionary appointees to Alaska, who will speak at the 11 a.m. service and show colored slides on the work in Alaska at 7 p.m. The Ryans are daughter and son-in-law of the Blakslees, former missionaries to South America v who are familiar to area churches, and are now ministering to Hispanics in El Paso.
