DEL HAVEN - Last Saturday, the Cape Express Rovers I team, with Coach Ken Kirsch, welcomed the team from LYAA (Lenape Youth Atletic Assoc. ) to the fields at county Park South here. Well-rehearsed plays by half-backs Dayton Owens and Kurt Branigan and defensive maneuvers by players like Martin St. John helped goalie Matt Ferry keep the visitors scoreless. Rovers scorers were: Conference For Legion CAPE MAY - Past Commander Jean Berger of Harry Snyder Post 193, American, Legion, will represent the local post at a special three-day conference Friday-Sunday at Fort Dix. Paul O'Brien, two, and one each for Eddie Edwards, Gary Fitz, and John Leahy. These would not have been made except for the assists by Tony Nordone, (3), Is Gary Fitz (2). and Frankie Ripple (1) Sunday found the sun smiling on Wally Porter's under- 16, Rovers II, as it sent Upper Township home with a 3-0 loss, Scores by David Dills — assisted by Rob Heritage, Tim Gallagher, aided byJim Nusan and Norman Brion, set-up by Paul Weaver, along with defensive plays by Tim Kirsch, Eddie Garvin and Bill Thomas — handed goalie Bill Sheets his first Express shut-out. Meanwhile, the Linwood Dragons trampled the under- 14 Express Midnight Special 5-1. Joey Laffey's shot, off a corner kick by Chris Corchiani, helped keep the score tied l-l into the second half, but then the Dragons took off towards their final victory score. Express under- 12, Silver Streak, could not, in any way, match the powder and skill of the Washington VHF-FM 16 Ruled Out For Checks CAPE MAY — A recent rule change now prohibits recreational boaters from making routine radio checks with the Coast Gaurd on Channel 16 (156.8 MHZ). This change was enacted to reduce the number of radio check requests currently being answered on Channel 16 The Coast Gaurd continuously monitors VHF-FM Channel 16 because it is the international channel for distress and emergency calls. Radio checks have become so numerous on this channel that they interfere with the Coast Gaurd 's ability to gaurd the frequency or communicate with vessels and persons in distress THE COAST gaurd is not trying to eliminate the availability of radio checks, but there are other means for determining whether one's radio is working properly. There are plenty of other boaters who will respond on opentraffic available channels. Radio checks may still be conducted by FCC reps, qualified radio technicians installing or repairing equipment, or ship's personnel when requested by the Coast Gaurd. Such checks must be identified as "FCC" or "technical" THE COAST GAURD wants to cut down on the amount of traffic on Channel 16 that is not distressed related. The day a boater finds that he has a fire onboard or a foot of water in tee bilges is when he'll want to get through to the Coast Gaurd on the first call. Operating procedures or means of obtaining copies of the marine rules may be obtained from local Coast Gaurd units or the Coast Gaurd auxiliary.

Township team, as it returned to the Villas shutout, The younger Washington Township team traveled here to face the under-10 Golden Flyer. Kenny Kirsch assistedFrank Jancsura's single Express goal, and, although the entire Flyer team played super soccer, especially goalie Jeff Robinson and defensive players Mike Quinn and Joey Mader, Washington returned home with a 2-1 victory.
