Program To Focus ^ On Alzheimer's
Alzheimer's Disease is the subject of a two-part series to air 10:30 a.m. this Sunday and May 12 over Channel 40. WMGM, throughout Atlantic. Cape May, and Cumberland counties. The program is produced locally by Gail Milgram Beitman and Jeff Whittaker of Channel 40. Dr Robert Beitman, volunteer host of Forum 40 on Health, the monthly program on preventive medicine, interviews two area residents who care in their own homes for relatives afflicted by Alzheimer's. THEY ARE joined by the director of nursing of a large long term care facility to discuss symptoms and progression of the disease, early detection, and how to find and rule out reversible causes. Cavagnaro. R.N., Rio Grande. In Part II, on May 12, Forum 40 host Whittaker meets with local legislators and family members of Alzheimer's victims to explore options for care currently available. THEY WILL review the recommendations of the Governor's Task Force on Alzheimer's Disease and whether these will provide . help to individuals in South Jersey. Dr. Beitman is medical director of the Eastern Shore Nursing Home and attending physician at other area long term care facilities. He maintains an active practice in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in Court House and Absecon. He is president-elect of the Cape May County Unit of the American Cancer Society and secretary of the county Medical Society. Dr. Beitman also writes a regular column, "Health Watch," for the Herald and Lantern. Both Dr. Beitman and his . wife, Gail Milgram Beitman, who is producer of the show, are unpaid volunteers. Mrs. Beitman is executive director of the Jewish Federation of Cumberland County and editor of the Jewish Chronicle of Cumberland County.
