Members of the Crest Community Church Youth Group invite everyone to their Benefit Dinner Sunday, May 19, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Johnson's Restaurant in Wildwood. Adults may choose from fried flounder, chicken, or prime rib; children either chicken or flounder. Cost is $7.95 per adult, $3.95 per child. For further information call 522-6286. Many residents and business owners were disappointed with the decision to locate the South Jersey aquarium in, Camden. It seems as though Campbell Soup and the number of voters in and around Camden carry more clout that we poor souls at the seashore. It's a shame. Nobody considered Camden to be under consideration. When on says the structure would be built in South Jersey, we felt ■ that meant Cape May or Atlantic County. Somebody should tell those guys in Trenton that Camden is not South Jersey, at least not to we South Jerseyites! I remember when Gov. Kean ,was elected and he told the residents of South Jersey that he owed us one... Well he still does! Cape Human Resources, Inc. will be distributing five pound blocks of processed cheese to families who qualify. The distribution point in Wildwood is the Wildwood Center, Davis Avenue, behind City Hall. If you are on any type of public assistance, you may qualify to receive the food offering. Call 729-4902 for further information and qualification restrictions. Mark May 4th on your calendar Two excellent activities are slated for Saturday Both take place in •.Wildwood, just blocks from eaeh other, so plan a brief sojqprn in Wildwood Satur --day. May 4 ... St. Ann's is sponsoring its annual Hoagie Sale and Flea Market The sandwiches are $2.50. and this year delivery is available, to your home or office. If interested in — "Hoagie to go," call 729-9677 from 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The other event is the huge rummage sale planned by the Wildwood Elementary School Home and School Association. A wide variety of merchandise will be available at the school. Enter the school via the Magnolia Avenue entrance between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The Five Mile Beach Annual Rite of Spring is upon us. Doesn't seem possible, but it is true. No doubt, you are probably asking. "What Rite of Spring?" It can be nothing else but the Water Dept.'s Spring Mydrant flushing program. I know that this semiannual task is a necessity, but my laundered whites never seem to fully recover from the necessity! Be warned, dear readers, for rusty water, low pressure, and minor flooding in low lying areas. The flushing process will
continue from the end of April through May 24th with the work beginning in North Wildwood and moving south into Wildvjood Crest. No schedule is available for the approximate time for your area so please don't call the Water Dept. requesting one. If you wish to know when they are in your area, just load your machine with your finest clothing, set the dial to delicate wash and turn it on; that's when they will be flushing the hydrants in your neighborhood. If that fails, I suggest you give your porcelain potty a super cleaning and one last flush, that never fails. I'm alwajs amazed at the hidden talents of many of our Islanders. Frequently, for whatever reason, I happen upon individuals with surprising "other sides" to their lives. Hqj-e is one for you. Everybody knows that Bill Stiimnel, owner and operator of the Gulf Station at Columbine and New Jersey Avenue, works miracles with his auto repairs. What most people don't know, is that Bill has an artistic and musical side that is both creative and longstanding. Perhaps it is the inner satisfaction that comes from possessing these creative talents that makes Bill so darned friendly. As the election campaigns in Wildwood and Wildwood Crest enter the final leg of the respective races, the campaign in North Wildwood is jus^ beginning. Far be iMoj* me to make political commentary, although some would have you think that mentioning Fun Fairs and Hoagie Sales serves some hidden political purpose. 1 shall defer to the sensitive nature of a very few by simply listing the candidates that have "tossed their hats into the ring" thus far. Running as a slate are incumbent Mayor Lewis Vincin. Councilman-at-Large
candidate, incumbent Ralph Johnson, the First Ward Candidate Lewis . Ostrander, and the Second Ward Councilmen candidates. Aldo Palombo and John Janoski. Opposing Vinci for the Mayor's position is Anthony Catanoso, nephew of the ex-Mayor Anthony "Tony" Catanoso. The whole slate running with Catanoso was not available at the time of this writing, but will be included when received. In Wildwood Crest, the first of two Candidate's Nights is over and one remains. The Wildwood Crest Civic Association is hosting the final "meet the candidates" session on May 6th. Bob Fineberg, President of the Association, invites all residents to attend. The session begins at 8:00 P.M. in the Church of the Assumption, Rambler and Seaview Avenue. « • • • The North Wildwood Board of Education has announced the hiring of a new Board Secretary". Mary Ott will be replacing Leslie Motz who recently resigned from the position. We join with the faculty and residents as we wish her best of luck in her new position. Ott will be working out of the Board of Education's office in the Margaret Mace School. The Wildwood-North Wildwood Boardwalk is beginning to take shape. Countless millions of upgrading dollars are being spent by the pier owners. The World's greatest collection of amusements and rides will be bigger and better than ever before. Huge rides, unusual ride, wet rides, and disorienting rides are being assembled as if they were large jig-saw puzzles. As one who gets "car .sick" with a brief spin cTftfund the block, I don't fully appreciate the attraction of these mechanical wonders. But I remain an amusement park aficionado and can certainly appreciate the magnitude of the Wildwood Boardwalk. It is nothing short of spectacular, and this season promises to provide many hours of family fun for many
