Capers in Teen Arts Festival

OCEAN CITY - Eight students from Lower Cape May Regional High School successfully competed in the first annual Cape May County Teen Arts Festival here recently. Jay Coldren, Rick _ Hinker, Larry Brown, Sharon Cruz, Lisa Harper, and Amanda Tuel performed three scenes from recognized theatrical works for a panel of judges at the Ocean City Music Pier. Coldren, Hinker, and Brown performed the Firesign Theatre's "Nick Danger: Third Eye", a radio comedy loosely based on "The Maltese Falcon", "M", and "Key Largo". CRUZ. HARPER, and Tuel -rendered an original manuscript, "That Day", which tells the harrowing .experiences of "The New Girl in School" and how she foils an attempt by the president of the senior class to humiliate her in front of a school assembly. Coldren also performed the "Honest Man" speech from Shakespeare's Othello. In visual art, students Nancy Breitbach and Leslie Ahrendts placed in the top 10 in the county. All eight students will travel to New Brunswick to compete in the finals of the state Teen Arts Festival May 28. WINNERS OF the state festival competition have the opportunity to take part in the Summer Arts Institute in Montclair and to receive further training in visual and performing arts as part of their matriculation. Each winning student also becomes a candidate for scholarships at the Mason Gross School of the Arts and all work completed in this program counts toward fulfillment of under graduate credit require- ' merits. Trip Slated To Batsto COURT HOUSE - The Cape May County Historical Society will sponsor a bus trip to *" historic Batsto Village Tuesday, June 4. The bus will depart the museum on Rte. 9 at 7:45 a.m. and return at 6 p.m. A guided tour of the Mansion, grist mill, blacksmith and carriage shop is included in the trip. Lunch will be available at the Sweetwater Casino. For further information and reservations phone the Museum at 465-3535. Reservations must be made by May 21. .
