Shore Hails Volunteers

SOMERS POINT - During the past year, volunteers at Shore Memorial Hospital donated over 50,000 hours of service, representing more than $300,000 in savings to the facility had they been paid for their labors. "They give this place much more th» money can buy," offered Ted ^ Wiegand, Shore Memorial Hospital administrator, of , the volunteers. "They give it personality. It's a human touch." An Integrated and essential part of the hospital, volunteers provide services that enable the nursing staff and other support personnel extra moments for the patient.

"IT'S NOT just busy work," pointed out Mary Petrunis, director of volunteer services at Shore. "It's jobs that need to be done. We as employes, are extremely fortunate to have such dedicated, talented and * caring individuals who give so unselfishly throughout the year to aid in improving hospital services." Although they are appreciated each and every day, the hospital has set aside today, the middle of National Volunteers Week, to honor those who give so freely of their time and energy with an open house 2-4 p.m. in the hospital dining room. DURING THE past

* j decade the volume of in- (, service volunteers at Shore has increased over 100 percent, explained Petrunis, who has been the program's director since 1971. "There has also been an increase in professionals in •V volunteerism," she explained. "Many are from health care professions and there are more men volunteering than ever before. Volunteering is no longer being done by the little old lady who has nothing better to do. These people are volunteers because they want to be." Promoted SEAVILLE - Marine Lance Col. David R.
