Law's, Burke Grab Lead in Softball

CAPE MAY - In the opening games of the 1985 City Men's Softball League, three time A-League champions Law's Printing started the season impressively with a 11-2 win over Midas Muffler and a 14-5 win 9ttr Captain Sig's. Law's Collected 16 hits in the win over Midas, including three hits from Carl Umscheid, a two-run home rim from Kevin Sherman, a Sherman double and an Ernie Troiano triple in a 5- run fifth inning. In the win over Captain Sig's, Law's Printing got three hits from Will Mendo, Sherman, Umscheid and Steve Steger and four RBI's from Sherman. BURKE BUILDERS started the season with two

impressive wins, a 6-3 victory over Captain Sig's and a 15-0 shutout over Bayshore Lounge. In the victory over Captain Sig's. Burke's was led by three hits from John Canderan and some outstanding defense from Joe Genovese. Doc's Custard opened the season impressively with a 12-9* victory over Carlos O'Brien's. Doc's was led by John McCray, who had three hits along with 2-hit performances from Kevin Boyle. Ed Grant and Bill Coombs. Soccer , Softball At S.J. Christian

ERMA — The spring sports program is in full swing at South Jersey Christian Academy, with efforts in both softball and soccer now underway. Parents coach both teams. The softball team involves both boys>and girls in grades 4 through 7. Coaches Dan Ricketts and Bud Daily led their team to a 15-11 win over Greentree Christian Academy of Pleasantville in a May 1 meeting. A rematch against Greentree is scheduled for May 15. THE SJCA SPRING soccer program is actually a primer program for youngsters in grades 1 to 3. According to Coach Bob Kelly, the program is designed to teach the game's fundamentals, build character, and

develop team spirit. The six-week program is in its fourth year. Kellysaid. and involves both boys and girls. Kelly said that the youngsters are first Caught the rudiments of the game, and later play intramurally to pr#6tice the skills they've acquired. The spring program is a means of introducing' the younger children to the sport, and preparing Utjem for the regular fall soccer program as they get older. The academy offers a variety of sports and other extracurricular activities to its student body. The school is a K-8 Christian day school, governed by its own interdenominational school board, housed in the Tabernacle Church complex here.
