MOTHER'S DAY is the big happening this we^kr The cards and letters kids write in the schoolroom seem to express the sentiments best. Real, loving thoughts that somehow we aren't able to say as easily as the years pass. Greeting cards, flowers, letters, gifts, telephone calls put Moms and children in touch if the miles are distant. « * • » May approaches in our mind just about the most perfect month of the year. While the weather is apt to fool you now and then, the good things growing in our gardens give spring its' special beauty. Early things like radishes and lettuce are nearly ready to eat. And this week we're well into corn planting time. In about eight weeks from now we'll be enjoying ■ the new sweet Jersey corn. What's better? New birds are still arriving and filling the morning air with their cheery songs. ■ The early dawn is fragrant with the spr- ■ ingtime wBBe bird songs greet us upon awakening. What's better? * * * OLD-FASHfONED purple lilac is one of our favorite spring blooms. It's been a good companion since it came -from Persia to Constantinople in the 12th or 13th century, traveling slowly across Europe to England. Unpretentious and plain, a bouquet of lilac on our dining room table always gives a lift to the spirit. . • Since this Sunday is dedicated to Mothers, we would like to suggest several restaurants that will be bending over I m
backwards to make Mom feel like queen for the day : CRYSTAL ROOM. The Crystal Room at the Atlas Motor Inn, Beach Drive, near Madison Avenue, Cape May has even printed a special Mother's Day menu just for the occasion. The Crystal Room will be offering Roast Duckjing with orange sauce and wild rice stuffing, Roast Young Vermont Turkey, Baked Ham, Broiled Flounder Siciliano, Veal Parmesan, Stuffed Shrimp (stuffed with fresh Maryland crabmeatl, Roast Leg of Baby Lamb and Prime Rib of Beef. There will be special gifts for each mother who has dinner at the Crystal Room. * » * MAD BATTER. The Mad Batter at the Carroll Villa Hotel, at 19 Jackson Street, Cape May offers Moms a gourmet dining experience in a special place. The food at the Mad Batter is so special it is frequently acclaimed as among the best to be found in the South Jersey area. Brunch is now a tradition, eaten on the Victorian porch. Included are a selection of gourmet cereals, homemade breads and egg dishes such as Eggs Benefict, Eggs Benny, Benezia Omelette and Pearly May (fined oysters on a bed of scrambled eggs1 with potatoes and onions). Numerous choices for lesser and heartier appetites. • • • GREEN CUISINE. The Green Cuisine at 302 96th Street, Stone Harbor puts fowl on its proper pedestal by offering an array of tempting salads with homemade dressings, fresh fruit assortments, and desserts that are pleasing to the eye as well as the taste buds. Tha' famous Katz's Gourmet Cheese
Cake with only the finest natural ingre-, ■ dients is, still featured at the Green Cuisine. We always ask to have ours topped with fresh fruits. Another dessert favorite is Continental Yogurt, frozen yogurt with bananas, raisins, and nuts, sprinkled with cinnamon. It's a delicious as well as nutritious treat. * * * T. J. SCANLON'S. T. J.
