Whenever you're raised, you, get stuck for two days It's time you were fixed or exploded." ' v "In my time," said the bridge, "I was more than enough For the traffic in cars, boats, and people. But now every clown brings two autos to town And a yactjt with a mast like' a steeple." "You're too slow," said the State, "So we're closing you down. ^ In just a few months we'll repair you." "Make that years, '^aid the bridge, "years of cursing and tears, And I'm not sayingphis just to scare you." "You are wrong," said the State, "It's not much of a job. We'll -Scour and scrub your machinery. The folks at the shore, won't mind the detour; Besides, there'll be all that new scenery." Well the bridge isn't done, and of course it's been years; The detour became quite a bummer. But the third week in May, for Memorial Day, they opened it up for the summer. "So you see," said the bridge, "My oTJ self wasn't bad, Some grease would have made me sufficient. For sure I had quirks, but compared to the jerks Who are fixing me, I was efficient!"
