Weekend Tours by Gaslight

CAPE MAY - On the Sunday evening of Memorial Day Weekend, May 26, a Mansions by Gaslight Tour will open four of the city's Victorian landmarks to the general public. The tour will be held from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC), this tour of the interiors of restored vintage homes, each representing a different form of architecture and planning, offers an intimate insight into Victorian lifestyles. In each house, guides point out the original furnishings on display. TICKETS FOR the Mansions By Gaslight Tour may be purchased at the Emlen Physick House, 1048 . Washington St., starting one half hour before tour time. In order to help tourgoers get from one house to another, MAC's trolley-bus will run on a continuous transit loop.

Houses open on the Mansions By Gaslight Tour include: The Emlen Physick House ( 1048 Washington St.), designed by famous architect Frank ^Furness, is a noted Victorian House Museum. It is the headquarters of the MidAtlantic Center for the Arts. \ The Abbey (Columbia Avenue and Gurney Street), built in 1869 for a Pennsylvania coal baron, is an outstanding example of Gothic Revival Architecture. It features a 60-foot tower, etched ruby glass windows, and some of the most elegant formal rooms in town. THE MAINSTAY Inn (635 Columbia Ave.) was built in 1872 as a posh gentlemen's gambling club. It is a classic example of the Italianate Style, with 14-foot ceilings and wraparound verandas. The Wilbraham Mansion ( 133 Myrtle Ave. ) began as a simple country farmhouse built in 1840. It was

expanded and Victorianized in 1900 by the wealthy Wilbraham industrial family from Philadelphia to become the massive structure it is today. Its many rooms are Filled with outstanding Victorian furnishings. Pancakes To Aid Blind STONE HARBOR - The annual pancake breakfast sponsored by the Stone Harbor Lions Club Ladies Auxiliary will be held Saturday, June 1, at Uncle Bill's Pancake House, 304 96th St. The menu includes pancakes with, bacon or sausage, juice, and coffee, with no substitutes permitted. Big Bands Perform Friday OCEAN CITY - Two big bands perform Friday at a i Music Pier dance, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, 8 - 11 p.m. Pete Castellano's big band, featuring vocalist Judy Cahill, and John Clock's swing orchestra, with singer Stan Gilmer, are scheduled to appear. Both groups have performed at major hotels and clubs throughout the area. There wil| be continuous music' till -J 1 p.m. with light refreshments served in the solarium. The Music Pier is enclosed structure over the beach and ocean, one of the few remaining on the Jersey shore. It is the site of year-'round entertainment. The dance is sponsored by WDVR and the city. Admission is $5. For reservations, call the Public Relations Office, 399-6111. Tickets will be available at the door CCC Concert On Tonight VINELAND Cumberland County College's Wind Symphony will perform a spring concert in the college student center. S. Orchard Rd.. 7:30 this evening. The 42-member symphony. directed by Joseph Arkinskas. will play "The Great Waldo Pepper March", "A Gershwin ^Rhapsody", "Anything Goes" from the movie "Indiana Jones." selections from the musical "Cats". "Big Band Bash," selections from the musical "Grease" and "Stars and Stripes Forever". Also featured will be a guest appearance by the Millville High School Dukes of Dixieland. Admission is free.
