i One- Act Festival Cooperative Event ,

| ERMA — Two guest i student-artiste from Ocean I City will join students of I Lower Cape May Regional P High School in presenting A Festival of One-Act Plays 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8 in the Paul W. Schmidtchen Auditorium of the high school. The cooperative effort is the result of the young actors' meeting some weeks ago in the first annual county Teen Arts Festival at the Ocean City Music Pier. The guest performers will be Craig Hunt and Dave Himles. UNDER THE student i direction of Lisa Harper, I Wayne Stecher, add Jay Coldren, the players from Lower will present the playlet, "The Betrayal", adapted from a Henry James short story, "The Interview" from America, Hurrah! by Jean Claude van Itallie, and "The Lot-

tery" adapted from Shirley Jackson's short story. Ocean City's Hunt and Himles will offer a blackout from Thorton Wilder's "Infancy", a charming dialogue between two babies on a play mat who discourse on their sudden intrusion into the perplexing world of adults. BY TURNS their comments are witty and poignant commentaries on the state of world and household affairs, situations irrevocably controlled by adults whose vision? remain oblique at best. Direction is by Neal Mayer, dramatics instruc-

tor at Ocean City High School. The story of "The Betrayal" centers on the amorous flirtations of two sisters who vie for the love of the same man. Suspense and Gothic romance coalesce in the eerie world of "The Betrayal", where desire without fulfillment is the price of jealousy. UNFULFILLED desire also plays a part in "The Interview", a brutal attack on the follies of the American Dream. With devastating bite, van Itallie satirizes the impersonality of daily life, and the uselessness of combatting boredo,m with traditional escapes. The audience is left with a vague emptiness which requires it to ask: "What have I just seen?", "Who are these people talking about?", and "What does it all mean?" Lower's one-acts are being presented by the Acting and Stagecraft students as part of their final examination for the 1984-85 school year. THE CASTS include: Larry Brown, Jay Coldren,

Sharon Cruz, Tina Dixon, Lisa Harper, Rick Hinker, Paige Hunter, Craig Pilczuk, Joe Sida, Michelle Snedaker, Amanda Tuel, Ricx Weber, Jill Escher, Holly Harper, Sue Hart, Christine Jackowski, Karen Lukert, Sheila McCloy, Alexandra Packer, Mark Schneider, and Shari Ska in. A Festival of One-Act Plays is produced by Paul J. Mathis, director of School Theatre, with special permission of Dramatists Play Service, New York, and The Dramatic Publishing Co., Chicago, 111.
