Ocean City Offers Art Show •
OCEAN CITY -The city Arts Center opened its 13th Annual Juried Art Show May l, with artist David Ahlsted, associate professor of art, Stockton State College, as th&.juror. Accepted worfcs are being exhibited in the Lower Gallery. Those works not accepted are being shown in the "Salon Des Refuses"; Upper Gallery. There were over 100 entries submitted, out of which 22 were accepted. The works being shown cover areas of the fine arts including oils, watercolor, pen and ink, and sculptural work in bronze and clay. The show will remain hanging until May 31. AHLSTED HAS many solo and group show exhibitions to his credit. The awards received were: Ocean City Arts Center Award of $200 to Barbara Neibart-Smith for the painting, "The Bay". Ocean City Presidents Award of $100 was divided between Peggj^Zangerle for the painting "Tom Kennedy", and to Sally Funk for the painting "Near Middlebury". The Elise Steinberg • Award (for watercolor) of $100 went to B. Rosenfeld !
for the Watercolor, "Boatyard". The Friends of the Arts Award of $50 was awarded te both Lance Balderson for the painting "Untitled" and to Molly Carpenter for the work "Companions''. SIX HONORABLE mentions awarded to MimTT Fishwick for "Waterfall" Simon Justman for "Family Circle", David Marvel for "Cloak Room", Florence
Deeley's "Outdoor Chess Pieces", Mary Anne Kline for "March Storm", and David Nibouar for "Ontario Pastoril". The opening reception and the presentation of awards was held May 4. Performing Arts Festival Slated ■ \ /
MAYS LANDING - A wide variety of cultural activities for all ages, including workshops, dance, theater and musical performances, will cap off Atlantic Community College's spring cultural calendar. The ACC Festival of Performing Arts, produced under the direction of Sue Griffith, associate professor of communication and arts, will be held May 28 to June 2 on the campus ■ here. All events will be held in Walter Edge Theater. The performing arts
schedule includes: May 28— Senior Citizen Day and 8 p.m., a concert by the Gotham Trio; May 29— Elementary School Day, and 8 p.m., "Theatre Showcase" with three oneact plays including "Infancy" presented by Ocean City High School drama students; followed by "Revenge For Life," a play by Michele Rowe of Wildwood, which was selected as the best production from ACC's recent Playwright's Weekend. / OTHER EVENTS in- 1 elude: May 30— Middle School Day. Area middle school students and their teachers performances and workshops, and 8 p.m. "Dance Showcase" featuring area dance studios; May 31— High School Day; June 1— Family Day, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. workshop and senes of performances for children 6-12 presented by &he Tweedle Dum Troupe, an Ocean City group that acquaints children with the Elizabethan Era through music, art dance and song. At 4 p.m. The Tweedle Dum Troupe performs an updated version of Shakespeare's "A Comedy of Errors'' with Elizabethan songs and dance, directed by Nancy Fox Hoover.
