Quilt; Decoy Show 1 To Begin Saturday
CAE^itAY - Displays of antique quilts and duck decoys, exhibitions of quilting and wood carving, high-quality quilt and decoy dealers, a quiltrepair clinic and the raffling off a vintage quilt will highlight the city's fifth Annual Quilt and Decoy Show. Sponsored by the MidAtlantic Center for the Arts, the show will run for two days in Convention Hall (Beach Drive at Stockton Place): 9 a.m. -9 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Proceeds from the admission fee will go to the continuing restoration and preservation of the Emlen Physick Estate.
THIS YEARIS-Tiisplays of quilts and^decoys will be organized Around a 15-foot Delaware/ Ducker, under full sail/ which will form the ^enterpiece of the show- Over 100 antique and mo dern quilts and coverlets will be on view from private collections in the Cape May area. \ Also featured will be large numbers of antique shore^birds and duck decoys, exhibited in a natural setting. A further attraction will be a greatly expanded display of fish decoys, used for icefishing. Ten high quality quilt and decoy dealers will be present to sell their wares and discuss their areas of specialty. THOSE OFFERING antique and modern quilts (with many Amish and Mennonite entries) include: Bellweather Dry Goods of Lothiam, Md.; Barbi Harris Quilts of Ocean City: Kate's Quilts of Ephrata, Pa.; Quilt Quests of Cape May ; Victoria's Hope Chest, Ltd. of Rosemont, Pa.; and Walnut Grpve Designs of Norristown, Pa. Decoy dealers include: Bruce Bieber of Cape May , Jason's Country Shop of, Berea, Oh. , Ritter Carvers of Maple Glen, Pa.; and Wahl's Wood of Manahawkin. THIS YEAR'S show will also feature a quilt-repair clinic, to which people can bring damaged quilts for expert advice. This clinic will be held Saturday l to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sunday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, the Jersey • Cape Atlantic Embroiders' Guild will run a quilting bee throughout the course of the show in which quilting techniques will be demonstrated. Wood carvers will also be in attendance to show how decoys are made. J Before and during the show, raffle tickets will be sold (at $1.00 each) for an 88"x88" Le Moyen Star pattern quilt with a saw-tooth border that is signed and probably dates from the early 1900's. The drawing of the winning ticket will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday (the winner need not be present). During the month of May, this quilt will be displayed in the window of the Crazy Quilt Fabric Shoppe at 656 Washington St. The public is invited to submit quilts 'and decoys for display in the show. Anyone wishing to exhibit an item should bring it, for acceptance, to the Convention Hall between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday. Yard Sale ELDORA — A fair and yard sale will be held 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Memorial Day, May 27, at East Creek B^anorrDelsea Drive, ( Rte. 47fTWith proceeds going to the Parkway South S.D.A. School. Available at the Dennis Township event will be hair cuts, rides, refreshments, and free blood pressure readings.
