It's virtually impossible to find fault with John Fogerty's comeback album, Center field (Warner Brothers). The former leader of Creedence Clearwater Revival has put together a collection of tracks that are infectious, well thought out, and LyffQally, Fogerty is a ro--maatic, whA seems to be nostalgic for a time that no longer exists. It's this innocense that adds to the charm of Centerfield and makes it much more than just another record. It's great to have Fogerty back on the charts. NO REASON to complain about vintage Kinks' tracks being out-of-print. The fine folks at Compleat Records have taken care of that problem by releasing two dou-

> ble albums, A Compleat Collection and 20th Anniversary Edition. These collect hits such as ' f "A Well Respected Man", "Sunny Afternoon", "Tired Of Waiting", and, of course, "You Really Got Me" with 1 more obscure numbers like "Long Tall Sally' V "You Still Want Me", amjUthe i original verswiTor "Stop i Your Sobbing". These four sides are a must for anyone who expeI rienced the mid-60's British i invasions. Complet recently put out a double album by The Yardbirds which features seven previously uni released cuts that have a f young £ric Clapton wailing _ ! x on guitar. Don't miss these. THfe LATEST from Eng- _ land's Graham Parker is another strong collection of R&B inspired rockers with soulful vocals. Steady Nerves (Elektra) might not be Parker's finest moment, but when it comes to emotional singing few can match his performance. An added bonus is the guitar support of Brinsley Schwartz. The only guestion remaining to be asked is, when is Parker going to get the hit he deserves? Love Bomb (Capitol) is a strong effort from San Francisco's The Tubes. The material is consistent, the vocals sharp and the production by Todd Rundgren is clear and powerful. IT'S SURE THIS pales when compared to their live versions of these tunes, a fate the theatrical Tubes " will be plagued with forever, but, in all actuality, Love Bomb holds up well to repeated playings. Normally I'm not a big ■ fan of Pat Benatar, but her latest is actually quite good. Instead of cliched tunes built around tedious guitar riffs, some thought and care went into T ropico ( Chrysalis). The band has experimented with some fresh arrangements, Be na tar's vocals (always a strong point)? are more relaxed, and, best of all, the group seems to be having fun. There are a few minor drawbacks, but Benatar and the boys in her band overcome them without too much difficulty.
