Cruisers Wrap Up Cape May Crown

CAPE MAY - Cape Island Sailing Cruisers clinched the regular season championship in the city Coed Power Volleyball

League by defeating Lighting Dimensions in four straight games by scores of 15-8, 15-13, 15-5 and 16-14.

Although both teams finished with identical records,. Cape Island defeated Lighting Dimensions 6 games to 2 in head to head competition. In the first game, the Cape Island team was led by the blocks and spikes of Charlie Futcher and John Wilsey. How to Keep Boat Safe and Running VJ

CAPE MAY - A boat is more than just a car that floats. It is a life support system protecting the boater from a very unforgiving and sometimes hostile environment, the water, warns the Coast Guard. Even a minor mechanical malfunction can rapidly get you into serious trouble, and there is no way to walk to the nearest service station. Proper boat maintenance goes a long way towards insuring boating safety, but, in spite of your best efforts, sometimes things go wrong. When this happens, survival may depend on your ability to fix the problem. So, become f^giliar with all the systems on your boat. Most problems are simple, obvious, and easily fixed. Manufacturers often provide troubleshooting , guides. keep A tool kit, aboard. It should contain such items as a hammer, adjustable wrench, pliers, wire cutters, pipe wrench, vise grips, a set of box and wrenches, a knife, and screw drivers of various sizes and types. Take along some spare parts too. For

gas engines you may need a set of distributor points, condenser, coil, spark plugs, fuel pump, and a water pump impeller. If you have a diesel engine make sure that you carry spare fuel filters, as diesels are highly sensitive to water in the fuel. For rigging, sails and overboard plumbing carry such items as adjustable hose clamps, marline, and electrical and waterproof duct tape. You will be surprised how many repairs you can make with these items. Last, but not least, carry something with which to bafl your boat. Although a pump is nice, something so simple as a plastic gallon jug cut into a scoop could be a life saver. When you are trouble shooting, do one thing at a time, and if the last opera- . tion did not cure the problem, it was not the problem. Put it back the way it was before you start on the next check. Remember, mechanical malfunctions are generally caused by one simple-to-fix item that broke down. Knowing how to manage these breakdowns may save your boat, and your life as well.

Aces Cut 3 Cagers WILDWOOD - The Wildwood Aces of the United States Basketball League have announced the paring of three players from the club's original training camp roster. Those released were guards Lee Cummings of Chicago State, Quinton Lytle of Western Carolina and forward Butch Lamb of Lehigh Community College. The Aces will have to get down to 10 active players by tomorrow with two others permitted on the taxi squad. COACH PETE Monska got a better look at his team under game conditions when the Aces visited Long Island for an ' exhibition game at C.W. Post College Monday. The regular season begins Monday, May 27, when the Aces travel to Long Island. After a second road game at New Jersey May 30. The Aces open their home season at Wildwood's Convention Hall Sunday, June 2 versus New Jersey, with game time 8:35. Tickets for the home opener went on sale today at the club's office at Convention Hall.
