Benefit Footrace June 1
CAPE MAY - The sixth annual running pf the Lite Great Cape May Footrace, which will benefit the Cardiopulmonary Department of Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, will be staged here Saturday, June 1. A registration spaghetti dinner featuring free beer will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 31. The party will include a presentation by Tom Osier, running author and ultramarathoner, entitled "Secrets of an Ultramarathoner: How You Can Double the Distance You've Ever Covered on Foot with No Additional Training". SATURDAY morning the action begins with a 3,000-meter (1.864 miles) run, followed by the 10,000 meters (6.214 miles) main event
The race is sponsored by the Cape May Mall Merchants Association and merchandise awards are offered in all categories. Olympic style medals are awarded to the first through third winners. Overall winners also receive hand carved leather plaques depicting the historic Cape May Seal.
Awards for the 10K run are made in the following categories for men and women: under 13, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 plus. Prizes are also given to winning teams with 3 to 5 members. AWARDS IN the 3K run are made to the first through third winners, men and women, overall with no age categories.
Law's Has Slim Lead In National CAPE MAY - Laws Printing moved into first place in the city's National Softball League as it defeated Bayshore Lounge and Burke Builders this past week. In its 10-4 win over Burke's, Law's was led by John Vogel and Mike Moore, who had three hits apiece. John Fuller's 3-run triple in the 6th inning broke open a close game. Law's Printing also got _ some great defense from 1 Mike Moore and Carl Umscheid. BURKE S STAYED 1/2 game out of first with a 7-6 win over Midas Muffler. The victors were led by Ken Johnson, who had two hits including a home run. Ron ^ 'Denny, who had a homer, and Bill Johnson, whoihad two hits. Captain Sig's defeated Midas Muffler 12-9 with Rick llawl^v going 2-4 with i - 3 RBI's TotrTPillo and Doc i Rabore had 3 hits apiece, while Chris Dercole went 9 2-3 with 2 runs scored Midas Muffler bounced back to win its first game of the season 11-5 over Bayshore Lounge as Randy Clark broke the game open ~ with a bases-loaded double Doc's Custard remained tied for second place after defeating Bayshore Lounge 10-2 behind the 2-hit. 4-RBI's performance of Ed I Grant. WILDWOOD - A basketball foul shooting contest will be held in Fox Park Saturday noon. The park is located on Atlantic and Burk avenues. v Sponsored by the City of Wildwood, Department of Tourism and the Wildwood Aces Basketball Club, the event is free and open to children and adults.
