The Middle Township High School science students who participated in this year's New Jersey Science League competition ranked exceptionally high in the league's final statewide standings. Two MTHS students made the league's state honor roll: Scott Smith, who rank ed sixth out of 280 students in physics and Margaret llseih who ranked 17th out of 344 students in ninth grade Biology.
The MTHS Physics team ranked fifth out of 106 schools in the state They trailed only the prestigious Ridgewood. Princeton; Summit, and Cherry tyill East High Schools. They had beaten each of these teams at least onCe in the four examinations Smith and Bill Balliette were the MTHS team's winning finalists Joseph Steady is their physics instructor. Christine Heck ranked 14th out of 106 schools in the state. Phil Heck is their biology instructor. MTHS won the league's district championship by beating Millville High School in three subject categories to two. Bill Eckstein and Sholto Rasmussen were the winning team members in second year chemistry. Bill Doan is their instructor. Steady is the chairperson of the MTHS science department. THE MEMBERS of the Court House Kiwanis Club approved the new slate of officers submitted by the club's nominating committee chairman Jim Roland recently. Bob Hodges of Court House was elected president; Dan Money, Rio Grande, and Steve Sellers. Swainton, first and second vice presidents; Jim McLaughlin. Court House, treasurer Dr Mike Spagnolo, Glen Ortman. and Mike DiLulio were elected to serve three-year terms on the board of directors. • • • Robert and Sharon Herman and their daughters Robbie Jo and Cherri were very grateful to everyone who participated and attended the PancakfL Breakfast at the Green Fire House May 19.

Herman is still confined to a wheelchair and i faces more surgery while the other members of his family are still physically I recovering from their injuries. THE MTHS Percussion Ensemble was presented with a resolution that honored them for their accomplishments during the past year which included an undefeated season in winning the Atlantic Coast Percussion Championship. Diane DuFour accepted the award from Mayor Mike Vol I and Committeeman Chuck Leusner at the township committee meeting May 16. DuFour is the Ensemble's arranger and instructor Rirhard P. I.udwig is the director. Mike Russ wrote the drill routine and Pat Zampetti assisted. Members of the various instrumental groups of the ensemble are: Pete Morano, Chip Staples. EIGHTH GRADE i students from the Middle I School and schools in Avalon, Stone Harbor, and Dennisville participated in ■ the Play Day meeting at i Memorial Field in Court House May 13. This day was set aside to allow these students to become acquainted with one another since they will all be attending Middle Township High School next September The day mainly consisted of athletic activities suclias kickball, tug-of-war. volleyball, soccer, frisbees. soft- • ball and street hockey The students ate hoagies for lunch. John Roberson, Health and Physicial Education Department Chairman for grades kindergarten to 12 in the school district, coordinated this event. Mike Tourchisin. MIDDLE SCHOOL'S Band Director Richard Sterling and band members Jamiee Dramis and Holly Hevener were presented with a resolution from the township committee honoring the efforts of the Middle School Band during its performances in Williamsburg They accepted the award at Township Hall May 16. Former County Democratic chairman and Middle Township Club friend Jim Iannone was sworn in to a four -year term on Sea Isle City Commission May 22 Also sworn in for four-year terms were William VanArtsdalen Jr. and Michael McHale. Van Artsdalen's grandparents owned and operated the Bellevue Tavern in Court House during the 1960s. VanArtsdalen was also the only incumbent to win reelection McHale has been actively involved in the city's governmental affairs for a number of years. McHale was named as mayor and VanArtsdalen as deputy mayor at the outdoor swearing-in ceremonies. TOM STARR from Medic 9 was the guest speaker at the Court House Kiwanis meeting May 9. Starr described the services his new medical team provides to the residents of southern Cape May County His team is called out on all types of emergencies and supplements the services of the volunteer rescue squads. The National Honor Society Banquet and Candlelight Installation Ceremony were held at the County Career Center May 1. .MTHS principal John McVey opened the program and school superintendent Theodore Johnson addressed the inductees and parents Gary Hand gave the invocation.
