J ' Dress Up' Parade For Bikes Sunday
WILD WOOD - A "best i dressed bicycle contest" is being held here Sunday Children apd adults are invited to "Sress up" their bicycles with anything they can think of and compete for prizes including bicycles, books of tickets for amusement rides, Phillies baseball tickets. Wild wood Aces basketball tickets and trophies. • According to Jacqueline Fortino, Wildwood's director of tourism, "The objective of this new event is twoi fold: to encourage families , and friends to join together in a fun and unique activity in Wildwood, and to promote the city for what it is, which is a family-based recreation center" WHAT DOES dressing up a bike involve? on a bicycle if you want to go big". Bike riders can dress up also, if they'd like. Each bike will be classified and judged based upon one of the following categories: 1. best dressed bike for children ages 7-14; 2. best dressed bike for teens and adults ages 15-adult; 3. best specialty bicycle with innovative creation. The program, coordinated by the City of Wildwood, its bicycle association and bicycle businesses, will begin 1 p.m. with registration at Fox Park. Atlantic and Burk Avenues. AT l :30 P.M., the bicycles will parade down Atlantic Avenue to 26th Street, where they will go onto the boardwalk. They will then parade south-bound down the boardwalk. Judges will be positioned at a table in front of the Information Bureau (Schellenger and Boardwalk) where they will view the riders and their bikes as they pass by. Judges are representatives from several organizations: the Wildwood Beach Patrol, Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce. Greater Wildwood Hotel/Motel Association and Wildwood Aces Basketball team. The parade will continue down the boardwalk, returning to Fox Park, where the contest winners will be announced and prizes awarded by Wildwood Mayor Victor Di Sylvester. The entire route is about two miles, from beginning to end "I'm delighted to see local businesses and our city working closely together for a common goal and which benefits everyone involved" added Mayor Di Sylvester. "The city, the businesses and the people who join in to participate and have a good time will remember this special event". A rain date is set for Sunday, June 9.
