Wetlands Renews I Series on Science

STONE HARBOR - Critical thinking skills will be one of many new programs taught by a Rutgers University representative at several Kaleidoscope of Science courses to be given for teachers at the Wetlands Institute this summer. Full credits will be given by Glassboro State College for any one of the three two-week sessions which will help teachers teach science. New software for classroom computers will be demonstrated by the Walt Disney educational representatives and also by the National Association of Biology Teachers. BEGINNING IN June, participants will learn about space flight, 1 astronomy, satellite imagery, space careers, acid rain, forest resources, - wildlife, physics, geology, chemistry, ecology and the environment. Science career options and science for students in each teacher's community will be discussed. The series will illustrate how to make science fascinating for students. Hands on activities and new content will be taught. There will be science teaching-issues workshops to help solve administrative/school board questions and to develop an individual science teaching style that works for each participant. New curriculum materials and textbooks will be featured, and educational broadcasting representatives will show the latest in tapes. INSTRUCTORS will be from NASA. New Jersey Science Teachers Association. Philadelphia Academy of Science. Department of K n vironmental Protection. Stockton State College. Atlantic Electric Co.. Philadelphia Zoo and the Wetlands Institute

Courses will be held by grade category Teachers of kindergarten through third will attend session I June 17-28; teachers for grades four through six will be offered Kaleidoscope II July 8-19; and teachers of., seventh and eight graders will want the final session III, July 22 to August 2. Kaleidoscope of Science credit information, details and program fees are available from a free folder provided by the Wetlands Institute. The institute is open to the public Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 to 4:30 until June, when it will.be open Tuesdays through ' Saturdays.
