Bill Aimed To Deepen Waterway

WASHINGTON, D C. - Congressman Bill Hughes (D-NJ) has launched an effort to increase the federally authorized depth of the Salem River and a portion of the New Jersey -Intracoastal Waterway in Cape May County. THAT COMMITTEE is scheduled to vote on a major water resources development bill next month, and Hughes said he is hopeful that both the Salem and Cape May waterways will be incorporated into the legislation. Sturdy Chalks Up Mortgage Record

AVALON — Sturdy Savings and Loan Association approved mortgage loans amounting to $4 million during April, the largest single month figure in its history. According to John Armour, president. Sturdy Savings and Loan Association is having an outstanding year thus far, surpassing the record set in 1984, when the association deposits topped the $100 million figure for the first time in its 63-year history. "The inflow of saving continues to match our loai requirements for mor tages," Armour stated. "WE ARE extremel? pleased that our growth i within our projected guide- - lines. One of our 1985 goals is to continue strengthening our already strong reserve position," Armour said. Hie president attributed the confidence that Sturdy 's customers have in the stability of the association as a primary reason for its continued growth.
