COURT HOUSE - The county Office of Emergency Management held training sessions in the handling of radiological detection instruments April 30 and I May 2 for members of the county's fire and police departments and rescue squads. The classes were designed to familiarize those who might be on the scene of a

road accident involving spills of radioactive materials with the actions required for their own and the public's safety in such situations. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is emphasizing the training of response personnel in the handling of incidents involving hazardous materials of all types.

THIS TRAINING, which was requested by several of the county's rescue squads, was held at the County Emergency Operating Center in the Library Building here. Public safety groups with candidates successfully completing the courses will each be assigned a kit of radiological detection instruments. Completing the training were 37 people belonging to the following public safety services: the Avalon Police Department ; Cape May City Police Department; Court House Fire Company; Erma Volunteer Fire Co.; Dennis Township Rescue Squad; Marmora

Fire Co. ; Ocean City Police Department; Sea Isle City Police Department ; Sea Isle City Ambulance Corps; Seaville Fire Co.; the Cape May County Airport Fire Co.; the Cape May £ounty Health Department and the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Fire Department. Included in the group were several emergency management coordinators of the county's municipalities. They are: Harvey Williams of Cape May; James E. Hersh Sr., of Stone Harbor; Louis Valeri of Wildwood Crest, and William Webber Sr.. deputy coordinator of Lower Township.

SOCIAL SECURITY

I Q. I was in the hospital 1 last month. How can I find out if Medicare paid for all the services I received? A. Whenever you receive inpatient services covered by Medicare hospital insurance, you will get a notice called Medicare Hospital, Extended Care, and Home Healih Benefits Record. This notice explains the

I decision made on the claim I I and tells what Medicare' I paid. Q. I understand that the deductible and the daily I amounts which Medicare hospital insurance doesn't pay were raised in 1985 What are the new amounts? A. As of January 1. 1985, the Medicare hospital insurance deductible is WOO, increased from $356. This means that for the first through 60th day of inpatient j\ hospital care in each benefit ' period, hospital insurance pays for all covered services except the first $400. From the61st day through the 90th day in each benefit period, hospital insurance pays for all covered services except for $100 a day, up from $89 a day. Q. I spend about one day a week in my beauty shop, although the management of the shop was turned over to my daughter when I retired. Does this count as "substantial services"? A. If you are going over the books and otherwise exercising functions related to management, it could be substantial services. Check with your Social Security Office.
