This is the week, folks! Senior Week is upon us and surely the mettle of Wildwood Mayor Vic DiSylvester will be tested. The mayor and council have been endeavoring to alter the image of Wildwood since their first days in office, and this week will indicate the degree of their success. While many residents and businessowners would like to see Senior Week become a thing of the past, there is no doubt that it does provide a very sizeable profit to a segment of the business community. MOST NOTABI.E among the businesses that benefit are the rooming houses. These establishments count on the seniors to pay a large portion of their taxes and mortgages, and the owners are watching the city's approach to the seniors with great interest. While it may seem to us Islanders that Senior Week is a phenomenon unique to Wildwood. many seashore resorts experience the same influx of celebrating graduates annually.

VIRGINIA BEACII, Ocean City, Md . portions of the Grand Strand, and many of New York's beach towns are all popular graduation week retreats. In most cases the grads are a welcome segment of the economy Oddly enough though, Wildwood seems to be the only town that has suffered the stigma of being labeled a party town f of young rowdies. It is an image that many would like to shake. Perhaps this year^ SPEAKING OF problems ... The recently released crime statistics as published by the State Police and printed in las^ week's Herald/Lantern are drawing criticism from all segments of the Five Mile Beach population. Each year, as the statistics are released, many residents scream foul as they feel that the State Police do not take the tourist popmlation into consideration in gauging the crime rate. THIS CERTAINLY is a legitimate complaint that is an issue that should be addressed by the factcompiling division of the State Police. The Wildwoods are a tourismbased set of communities and distorted figures indicating a large crime rate are counter-productive to the supporting industry. It is a tough business attracting tourists and the job becomes even tougher with biased statistics. I can remember soliciting several of the large conventions as we endeavored to attract them to the Wildwoods. EACH OF THE conventions that were successfully lured to the Wildwoods mentioned the feeling of safety and security that prevailed in the Wildwoods. In fact, the relative safety of our communities was a large deter mining factor in the site choice. I am certain that the thousands of conventioneers would attest to the safety of/ our fine communities 'and would probably jofo with many of us as we tell the State Police to get it right or don't bother doing it at all! IF YOl' ARE a tennis player and live in North Wildwood I certainly hope you picked up your court discount pass at the Community Center If not. slip on your sneakers and get moving as you have only until June 15 to receive your pass. The North Wildwood tennis courts, located in Allan Park, are very popular and the discount pass for residents is a good deal! You can call 522-2955 for further information. Don't forget, when you go to get your pass, take along a form of identification with your North Wildwood address indicated. It is a necessary requirement! I certainly would be remiss if I did not congratulate Dave and Nancy (King) Lampken on their recent exchange of marital vows. Both are faculty members at Margaret Mace School and we join with their many friends in wishing them the best.

ALSO NEWSWORTHY in North Wildwood are the recent election results. Congratulations are in order for Mayor Lew Vinci, Ralph Johnson, Lew Ostrander, John Janoski. and Aldo Paiombo, as their team experienced a resounding victory in the North Wildwood Primary held this past week. Their election victory over the Catanoso camp is again a statement that the "times are a-changing on Five Mile Beach! There seems to be a new ruling force in every single Island community. Each community has a new mayor and many of the elected officials in the communities are relative newcomers to politics. I guess only time will tell the effectiveness of the new regimes. THE NEXT festivity on the agenda for the Crest's 75th Diamond Jubilee will be a fashion show at the Greater Wildwood Yacht Club. This is not an ordinary fashion show, but

one in which the participants will be modeling attire spanning the decades since the Crest's incorporation in 1910. It promises to be most interesting. so why not plan on attending? The event is under the direction of Doris Benner and you can obtain ticket information by calling 522-6567. DRIVING OCT of town yesterday, I noticed that the old County Library on (Page 15 Please) Old Grad, 98, At Reunion COURT HOUSE - Taking the spotlight at the annual reunion of Rutgers, the State University, recently was the oldest of the "old grads." James A. Stackhauser Sr., formerly of Court House. Stackhauser, a member of the Class of 1914, celebrated his 98th birthday in March. He marched the entire distance of the alumni parade along College Avenue in New Brunswick with other alumni.
