Here's Dolly tL By Dolly Stango
It was the greatest ever! The 6th Annual Foot Race of Cape May sponsored by the Mall Merchants with the grand marshal this year being Joe Watson of the Flyers. Race coordinator, Rosemary Stumpo, says it all started six years ago. Last year there were 89 runners and this year, would you believe. 650 runners! As a result, it was the biggest post-Memorial Weekend Cape May has ever had. It takes many people to turn out a successful event, as in the case of Christine Johnson. — she personally boiled and boiled ever so many pounds of spaghetti for the dinner the night before at Convention Hall. Then there was Msgr. Patrick J. Madden, pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, who so graciously gave his consent to prepare the food in the kitchen of the parish hall, where a firstclass cooking area has it all together. The many mall merchants who gave of their everything to make it all come out right and of course, where there's Rosemary Stump overseeing with her jaunty straw hat, what else can you expect but sheer top-shelf results! Now the City of Cape May can be so terribly proud. How about boning up now for next year's race? I'm thinking of it just to have a plate of that delicious Italian fare. Proceeds benefitted the Respiratory Department at Burdette-Tomlin Memorial Hospital. ANNUAL TOOTSIE Roll Drive for Retarded Children sponsored by the Knights of Columbus St. Mary's Council 1602 of Our Lady Star of the Sea in Cape May was the most successful thus far, says chairperson Tom Spear. Special thanks go to all the merchants and others who contributed so generously. to all who worked so diligently and of course to the merchants who permitted the Knights to solicit donations outside their places of business. Everyone joins giving plaudits to these men who come out every year handing out Tootsie Rolls in return for a donation, however small it may be.. . all for the much less fortunate — the retarded children. SHE SMILES every time no matter how complicated the case might be. She's Emmy-Lou Taylor, teller at S Penny Party GOSHEN — Crescent Council 61, Daughters of America, will hold a penny party 7 p.m. Monday. June 24. All are welcome.
the drive-in window at the bank on the Washington v Mall. It's so pleasant to get t a cheery greeting even f though your deposit slip c may be fouled up. r Winner of the 19-inch col- c or TV at Wawa's, with pro- p ceeds benefiting Jamie i Fiocca (our local boy hospitalized with acute leukemia), was Marie McKelvey of Cape May. Star of the Sea Altar and Rosary Society casino trip is Monday, July 8, going to Harrah's. Person to call is Margaret Dalin at 884-4492. EVER WILLING to please is James M. Pike, senior account manager at New Jersey National Bank, West Cape May. Just new in this area from Atlantic City, Pike says he likes it here ever so much and pretty soon will be setting up his living quarters so as not to be running back and forth. Besides, he'd like to stay here permanently — that's how much he enjoys everyone. The bank will have its official grand opening as soon as the inside alterations are completed, such as rugs, pictures on the wall, and other trimmings. Happy Birthday to AnnaMaria (Penny) Clark, Larry Kent. Maria Weston and Harold Hebers. HANDSOME bachelor managing the Cove Restaurant at the very end of Beach Drive is none other than Edward Johnston. His Mom is Nancy Johnston. Another bachelor also managing is brother Paul, and between them breakfast, luncheon and Saturday night dinners are attracting lots of beautiful women! Edward just returned from Portugal, but says he likes it better here. At this point I'd better report about heroic Jamie Fiocca, as my telephone rings constantly telling me that that's one of the very important items looked for here. Jamie's the 13-year-old at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia and while he's a Cape May-ite, I receive letters from out West, NewYork State, most of New Jersey,, Washington and other places. Many are summer residents who get this column mailed to them. So here it is : Jamie's still on intravenous feeding and the inward bleeding has stopped so that it won't be too long before he can start eating lightly. Food had to be stopped altogether so as to heal his insides and not cause any irritation. Jamie's eyes have been stitched at either end to prevent further irritation of the corneas by the sores which had formed under the eyelids.
