Soccer-a-Thon For Dimes March
VILLAS - The Bay Runiners Soccer League of Lower Township will hold its first annual March of Dimes Soccer-a-Thon 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, June 29. at the Cape Express Field. Bayshore Road. The event will feature 10 teams from the league with two divisional age groups competing. Children ages 6-9 will be in the first Division and those ages 10-14 will play in the sefcond Division. Each participant will receive an offical March of Dimes Soccer-a-thon Tshirt for playing in the event. THE INDIVIDUAL par ticipant with the highest amount of pledge dollars paid for the March of Dimes in each division, will
receive a grand prize of a bicycle, courtesy in part by K-Mart of Rio Grande. Mark Medernach, league coordinator for the soccer-a-thon, said he anticipates about 200 children actively participating in the event and stated hopes of raising over $1,000 for the fight against childhood birth defects. All those interested in getting involved should call either Medernach of the Bay Runners Soccer League at 886-6232 or Tom Crehan of the March of Dimes at 691-0064 or 547-1777. Avalon fishing enthusiast Norman Greene bought the land and pier from the Avalon Development Corporation for $500 It was orginally built in the early 1930s by the development corporation to attract prospective home buyers to the borough ON JUNE 19. 1935, Greene sold the pier and land to the nefrly established Avalon Fishing Club Corporation of New Jersey, marking the formal beginning of the club. Current president of the club is Rusty Miller.
