Repeating Pre-Med Program

Volunteer Pre-Med Orientation Program got high marks from students who participated last summer. Because of their positive response, the hospital is once again offering college students interested in medical careers the opportunity to observe the actual practice of medicine. Robert Beitman, M.D., of Court House, will direct the program. Dr. Beitman is a practicing internist and gastroenterologist with a special interest in community education.

DURING THEIR sum1 mer medical experience, students receive general f orientation regarding the . various departments of the , hospital from a d - I ministrators and department heads. They are offered the opportunity to accompany Dr. Beitman on hospital rounds and at his office practice as well as to observe in many hospital departments including surgery, radiology, emergency, and intensive care. This year they will also explore other medical seti tings including military, in- ' dustrial and long-term care through field trips. REGISTRATION lor Uie seven-week program scheduled to begin June 24 is handled through the hospital's volunteer office. Program fees total $50. Participants are also asked to volunteer four hours a week at the hospital with schedules planned individually to allow for student's work responsibilities and other comitments.
