Tourneys Slated AVALON — Tennis tournament schedules for the summer have been announced by the borough recreation department. Doreen Drexel is tournament director. Tournaments have been scheduled as follows: Men's Singles, July 6 - July 13; Women's Singles, July 13 - July 20; Women's Doubles, July 27 - Aug. 3; Men's Doubles, Aug. 3 - 10; Mixed Doubles. Aug. 10 - 17. Both Junior and Teen Pyramid Tournaments will be held throughout the month of July. 12 - 1;30 p.m. Junior — 12 and under. July 1-31; Teen — 13 16, July 1-31

COURT HOUSE - The Jersey Cape Racquet Club hosted the Windrift Classic Tennis Tournament recently. The Men's Doubles event, which was sponsored by the Windrift Motel in Avalon. attracted tennis enthusiasts throughout the county. Tennis Clinic CAPE MAY — The city will offer a tennis clinic as part of its summer recreation schedule. The 10-week course will start Friday and will be held 10 a.m. -noon Monday. Wednesday and Friday The first hour will consist of instruction for ages 7-11 and the second hour will be for ages 12 and older with instruction being provided by Charles Wise Sr. Further information can be obtained by calling the Department of Civic Affairs at 884-8411, ext 20 or 27

In first round action, the team of Paul Laurie and Rill Mathis advanced by passing Wayne Kenneisen and Dick Barton in straight sets ( 6-4 > (6-1). Lee Jones and Lionel Derosiers also advanced by downing Phil Kelly and Dick liartnett (6-1) (6-2). IN OTHER first round action, the team of Scott Swain and Scott Novick played well to top Zack Chavez and Ron Hewitt (6-4) (7-5). Joe Mullen and Dave Frank won a spot in the next round action due to a default by Tony F'ittipaldi and Rob Hughes. THE FINAL ROUND of play saw the team of Jones and Derosiers challenge Swain and Novick for the title in a hard fought match. In the first set, Jones and Derosiers come from behind to even the score at 6-all. Novick and Swain won the tie breaker 7-5 to take the first set. In the second set, Swain and Novick fought hard to even the score at 6-all and then went on to win the tiebreaker 7-3 to claim the title
