CAPE MAY - The Cape May City Elementary School graduated a class of 31 at closing exercises last week. The exercises included John M. Mathis of the faculty, who delivered the invocation and benediction. Elizabeth A. Dworsky, administrative principal, who delivered the welcome and awarded certificates of achievement; the class was presented by Perry Collier, vice president of the board of education. ANITA DESATNICK. president of the board of education, commended the class and presented academic awards. Arnold Nyblade, a member of the board, presented service awards. The pledge of allegiance was led by Tisha Gaines of the graduating class and Jason R. Phillips of the class spoke on "Remembering".
The school band, under Thomas Checket, presented an American medley, and the sixth grade students, with Karen Griesbach. director, presented "The Greatest Love of AH". Point Race Won By Area Runners
CAPE MAY POINT - New Jersey residents won the seventh annual fivemile race through the borough on Saturday. Bob Pyott, 19, of Bridgeton, a Cumberland High School gradaute who runs for Glassboro State College, was the first man to finish the event in a time of 25 minutes, 30.5 seconds. Pyott took the lead after the first mile in a field of nearly 400 runners. Tony Wilson, of Vineland, came in second with a time of 25:52.1. Pyott and Wilson, who run for the Pacesetters Running Club in Vineland, were rivals three weeks ago in a five-mile race in Bridgeton. Pyott finished second, while Wilson dropped out. Melody Sye, a former top runner from Ocean City High School, who now attends the University of Arkansas . won the women's division of the race finishing 45th overall. Sye, who runs the 800 and 1,500 in college, finished with a time of 30:55.5. Sye was running in 'her first road race of the summer, and only her third road race ever. * In the five-mile race, Peter Rowe came in third, Peter Dominick was fourth, and David Hudson was fifth. Tom Gough, of Haddonfield, won the men's twomile race in 10:16.2. Lee Cathrall, of Erma, won the women's division in 15:30. A total of 576 runners finished the two events hald to raise funds for the Cape May Point Fire Company.
An estimated 680 runners entered the two races which made the fields about the same size as last year. Learning To Swim CAPE MAY — A variety of morning swim classes for children is offered as part of the city summer recreation schedule. An Infant Swim for ages 2 and under will take place Wednesdays and Fridays 10-10:30 a m and 10:30-11 a.m. Each parent will work with their baby, using specialized techniques taught by the instructors The program is based or developing trust between parent and baby. A book is included in the course, which begins today THERE IS a Tiny Tot Swim program for ages 3-5 Wednesdays and Fridays 11-11:30 a.m. and 11:30noon. This class covers the basics of water adjustment and all children must be accompanied in the pool by a parent or guardian. This course will also start today. The Children Learn To Swim program for ages 6-13 will include instruction on the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. These classes will be held Tuesday mornings 9-10, 10-11 and 11-noon. This course will begin June 25. All of the swim programs are held at the Cape May Elementary School.
