SIC Plans Museum Opening
SEA ISLE CITY - The long awaited official grand opening of the Sea Isle City * Historical Museum will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with Congressman Bill Hughes as the featured speaker at the ribbon cutting.
The opening of the museum culminates three years of work by the former Sea Isle City Centennial Committee and the present Sea Isle City Historical Society. In addition to Congressman Hughes, other government officials from Cape May and Cumberland Counties will be in attendance. THE MUSEUM building, located behind City Hall, contains many items pertaining to Sea Isle City's
history — artifacts, photos and memorabilia. The city's 1927 Hale fire engine, driven by Homer Miller, will be on display on the Museum grounds. Harriet Reardon. historical society president, Congressman Hughes and Mayor McHale will do the ribbon cutting, and the museum will then be open to the public for inspection. The museum will be open on a regular schedule for the summer months.
An Appeal For Sober Driving COURT HOUSE - Help in getting over the importance of staying sober behind the wheel is sought by the Cape May County Council on Alcoholism and the Drunk Drivers Task Force. A variety of materials of available for the July 4th weekend plugging S.O.B.E.R. (Slow on the Bottle Enjoy the Road). • Another message is "Drink, Drive and Death; It All Comes Together. " These slogans, will be imprinted on key fobs, lighters, car litter bags, green frog Weebills, bumper stickers, balloons, and buttons. The items are free to any organization which would like to help get them to the public. The material can be obtained at the county Department of Health Building, off Exit 11 on the Garden State Parkway, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. any day after June 30. The appeal is for churches, local businesses and community organizations to assist in spreading the message. Oprandy Set For Academy VILLAS — Frank Oprandy, son of Carol Zmirak and stepson of Frank J. Zmirak of 110 Cedardale Ave., has graduated from the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School at Fort Monmouth. The school is designed to assist students in meeting the strict academic and physical requirements of the military academy. Instruction is provided in English, mathematics, physical education and military training. This summer, the preparatory school graduate will enter the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., to begin four years of study leading to a bachelor of science degree and a commission in the Army.
