Beach Drive Tour Added Attraction

CAPE MAY - Trolley, walking, and house tours (including a new Beach Drive Tour) will be featured daily this summer in the nation^ oldest seashore resort The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) will sponsor : Trolley tours of the National Landmark District begin at the trolley station. Reach Drive at Gurney Street. MAC WILL offer three distinct trolley tours. The Historic East End tour includes the historic Physick Estate, two Victorian hotels — the Chaifonte (the oldest) and the Colonial (the newest), picturesque Columbia Avenue, busy Ocean Street, and tree-lined Hughes Street . The tour will depart on the following schedule 10. 10:45, and II :30a. m ; 12:15. 1: 15. 2. 2:45. 7. and 8:30 p.m. THE HISTORIC West End tour includes Congress Hall, the Huntington House, the Pink House. Congress Place. Perry Street, and the aligned porches of Decatur Street. The tour will depart on the following schedule: 10:15 and 11:45 a.m.; 1:30. 3:30, and 7:45 p.m. The Historic Beach Drive tour, new in 1985 features a century of beach housing, from Victorian cottages through turn-of-the-century mansions and exotic revivals of the 1910s and '20s. to the best of contemporary design. HIGHLIGHTS include one of Cape May's grandest hotels, a vintage of lifesaving station, the "Mae West" house, and Poverty Beach The lour will depart on the following schedule: 11 a m . 12:45, 2:15. 4:15. and 6:15 p.m. Walking tours of the National landmark District provide an entertaining orientation for those who like history close-up and in detail. Guides lead visitors on a stroll down many of the historic streets Tours begin at the Infor mat ion Booth at the head of

the Washington Stfeet Mall (at Ocean Street) on th^ following schedule: Saturdays. Sundays. Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. 10 a.m.; Mondays and Thursdays; 7 p.m.. and Fridays: 1 p.m. GLIDED TOURS of the Physick Estate ( 1048 Washington St.) feature the 16room house designed by renowned architect Frank Furness Built in 1881 in the Stick Style, it is an authentically restored Victorian House Museum. The estate tour also includes the Carriage House, now home of the Cape May County Art League. The Carriage House nas rich wood paneling and horse stalls decorated with ornate grill work. A small barn on the estate contains a display of antique tools. The complete tour runs on the following schedule: Saturdays, every 45 minutes 10:30 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.; Sundays, every 45 minutes 10:30 a.m. - 12:45 p m . Tuesdays, every 45 minutes 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.; Thursdays, every 45 minutes 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. EVERY WEEK in July and August. MAC operates Physick Estate and trolley tours specially geared for children 6-12. Children's Physick Estate Tours run every Tuesday morning at 10 while Children's Trolley I Tours run every Thursday morning at 9:30. The Physick Estate Tours begin at the Trolley station. MAC's open air trolley, an hour-long evening jaunt, carries passengers by the booming surf of the beachfront and back through the heart of the Historic District. This ride leaves from the trolley station. Beach Drive at Gurney Street, every evening at 9 (except for Thursday.
