Quilt Show, Tea at Wetlands «

STONE HARBOR - The third annual Quilt Show and Tea will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Wetlands Institute here. This one-day exhibit of quilts, needlework and crafts by the "Wetlands NeedJers" will also be the official unveiling of the group's 1985 quilt, "The Delaware Bay". This is the fourth quilt designed by the Institute's own staff member, Marion Glaspey, and quilted by the "Needlers". —

Chances for the quilt will be sold for the benefit of the Institute's education programs, and the drawing will be held in October. FEATURED IN this year's show will be demonstrations of various types of crafts, including lap quilting, rya rug needlework, tatting, weaving, counted cross stitch, and crocheted dolls. These demonstrations by the "Needlersf' will take place throughbut the day. Tea will be served at 3 p.m.

to honor the quilters, and a small donation will include the show, demonstrations, and tea. The Wetlands Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to research and education programs dealing with the coastal environment. This year's quilt theme corresponds with the Institute's "Man and Bay Together" project, an historical journey through the life and times along the Delaware Bay. which took place this past spring. Wetlands Subject Is Erosion STONE HARBOR - Each year, because of wind and the pounding surf, a part of local beaches is washed out to sea or deposited on other beaches. Dr. Evelyn M. Maurmeyer, in her lecture "Coastal Processes and Beach Erosion", will address the problems which plague the coastal environment 8:15 p.m. Saturday, at the Wetlands Institute here. Her slide lecture will - deal $ith the physical [( forces, such as waves. *- tides, and currents, which contribute to beach erosion along the New Jersey and Delaware coasts. Specific structural techniques and management practices which may be used to minimize erosional damages will be discussed. DR. MAURMEYER is the president of Coastal and Estuarine Research, Inc. in Lewes, De., and is an adjunct assistant professor at the College of Marine Studies. University of Delaware She is actively involved in research dealing with beach erosion, shoreline changes, and barrier island dynamics, as well as having a personal interest in photography and scuba diving. The program is another in the continuing series of Saturday night lectures weekly at the Wetlands Institute throughout the summer.
