Having a boat examined free by the Coast Guard Auxiliary could save a boater's life. Having the necessary equipment to save one life aboard the boat in the time of need improves everyone's chances of survival. This would include a PFD (life jacket) for each person plus one throwable device. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers have been taught to examine each craft for safety, to see if the boat meets federal and state laws, plus safety equipment recommended by the Auxiliary to help save lives. AFTER THE free courtesy marine examination the Coast Guard Auxiliary's "Seal of Safety" decal is applied to each boat that passes. It lets the law enforcement officers

know that a boat meets their standards. If a craft fails the examination. no citation is issued. However, the owner is given a check-sheet so that he can equip the boat to qualify for the Seal of Safety decal. To have a boat examined, contact 884-8721, 884-7388, 884-4020, 884-2876, 886-4842, Vessel Examination Officers for Flotilla 82 Coast Guard Auxiliary. The half hour, or less, it takes to examine a boat and equipment will do much to assure a safe and pleasant boating experience.
