Home Run Derby Due July 7

SEA ISLE CITY - Thfe Phillies announced plans have been made to bring the popular Phillies Home Run Derby to the city July 7. Starting time has been set for noon. The contest is free for all boys and girls 8 to 15. Official entry forms will be available at Dealy Field the day of the contest. Home Run Derby uses an automatic pitching machine to throw 10 pitches to each contestant. Points are scored for all fair ball hits, distance hits and home runs. The scoring system used is fair to all youngsters. A YOUNGSTER just meeting the ball every time can often outscore the power hitter. The speed of the pitch as well as the scoring distances change with each age division. Tastykake, sponsors of Home Run Derby, will

award 30 prizes in the Sea Isle competition. First, second and third place winners will represent Sea Isle City in a regional final schedule for mid-August. From the regionals, winners advance to the championship set for Veterans Stadium Sunday. Aug. 25. Lou Steelman, coordinator otthe Sea Isle contest, said a separate girls softball contest would be held. First, second and

third place in the three ages divisions will receive an engraved Phillies plaque and also represent Sea Isle City in a regional final.

Law's Gets A Share Of First CAPE MAY - Law's Printing moved into a tie for first place in National League men's softball as it defeated Bayshore Lounge 15-0 and Burke Builders 9-6. In the win over Burke's. Law's Printing got 3-hit performances from Will Mendo, John Fuller. John Vogel and Kevin Sherman. Sherman also chipped in with 3 RBI's. Law's came from behind twice in the game with 4 runs in the sixth inning proving to be the difference. EARLIER IN the week Burke Builders defeated Doc's Custard 18-14 and Midas Muffler 7-4 to remain in a tie for first place Midas Muffler rebounded to defeat Captain Sig's 12-4 behind the pitching of Joe Nichols and Carlos O'Brien's 8-6 as Keith DeCollewaert had 2 hits for Midas. Doc's Custard defeated Bayshore Lounge 3-2 as Chuck Dougherty had 3 hits and Kevin Boyle had 2 hits. Basketball Clinic Set AVALON — This summer the recreation department will offer the Les Burke Summer Basketball Clinic The clinics will be held daily 12-3 p.m. in the air conditioned Avalon Community Hall. August 5-9 is for boys 9-18. August 12-16 is for girls 9-18. A typical day at camp includes: strength and agility exercises, station drills, guest speakers ( coaches. Hobie Cat Regatta CAPE MAY - The annual Hobie Cat Regatta here, which this year designated as the Atlantic Coast Championships, was staged last Saturday and Sunday. The races were conducted in the dfcean off Grant Beach. The event was organized by Hobie Fleet 416 of Lake Nockamixon. Pa., with the City of Cape May as one of the sponsors Fishy Prize AVALON - Local resident Richard Kurian was the winner of a $100 gift certificate as sixth prize in the first annual inshore flounder open sponsored by Sykes Yacht Sales and Marina Inc. of this borough. Seven of 28 entrants were awarded prizes.
