Op July 4 at 10 a.m. ceremonies will accompany the raising of a huge American flag on the Northeast corner of 30th Street and 3rd Avenue, Avalon, behind the Chamber of Commerce information office. It'll be the culmination of a dream and lots of hard work raising funds, for Elsie (Mrs. Milton W.) Kuhn. She contacted civic associations, philanthropic groups, branches of municipal government, clubs and individuals to meet her goal. Inspired months ago by the beautiful ensign flying at Avalon Honda at Exit 13 of Garden State Parkway, Elsie stopped and got details. It's no mean task to assume. Price of the 8 by 12-foot Old Glory is only $153, but tag on the 55-foot pole and its $3,000! The borough is doing its bit also, and has agreed to pay installation costs. YARDARM ON the pole, 12 feet below the American flag, will fly the 8' by 12' state ensign with the borough flag. The sight of the Stars and Stripes flowing in the wind always brings tears to these eyes and in view of recent incidents we think we won't be alone this time. If you'd like to be a part of this wonderful event, semi a check made out to Avalon Flag Fund and send it to Elsie Kuhn, 327 39th St., Avalon, N.J. 08202. STONE HARBOR'S Independence Day celebration is a full day of fun. Opening ceremonies begin at 9:45 a.m. on the Football Field at 80th and 2nd Avenue, followed by a candy scramble for children 6 and under, then foot races for girls and boys of all ages. At 10:30 the Phillies Home Run Derby, sponsored by Tastykake, starts for both sexes in three age groups, 8 to 15 on the adjacent baseball field. A Decorated Bike Contest for those up to 18 years takes place at the 2nd Avenue parking lot 10 a.m. Prizes will go to Best decorated, Most colorful and Most original. Judging for the Sand Sculptures, also 10 a.m. 'til 11:30, will take place on the beach at 2:30 p.m. at 81st Steet. Last event, strictly for kids, will be the Frisbee contest 11:00-12:30. Winners will be announced following tourneys and prizes awarded at the speaker's stand. As usual, residents, their guests and other visitors will gather at the parking lot on 96th Street to listen to Big Band Sounds of the Serenaders, an orchestra of at least tri-state reknown (they played at the best parties we got to in Maryland) under the direction of our own Walter Wagner of 108th Street AVALON YACHT Club has big plans for the Fourth of July week. Tomorrow there will be a Power Boat Rendezvous with sailing classes suspended for that day. There will be dinner and dancing to music supplied by Hal Davis. There will be a fireworks display at dusk and we can't think of a better spot from which

to view it. For eagerbeaver boaters the bar will be open at 11:30 a.m. before the rendezvous. Saturday. July 6, the club will hold the July 4th Regatta followed by an Independence Day Ball. This

will be another dinner dance, with Tony Avicolli playing music from 8:30 till 1 a.m. THE CLUBS annual rummage sale June 25-26 was a success. When we got (Page 16 Please)
