THE DEATH of Ellsworth Armacost. mayor of Avalon from 1973 to 1983 June 19 in Tamerac, Fla., left us with a deep sense of personal loss. When we started writing this column five years ago he was a constant source of encouragement and ac curate information. He was a totally dedicated man. His dearest love was his wife, Marion P. Armacost. who founded the national Save The Turtle Movement His second was the Borough of Avalon and its residents Only those who knew him weil are aware of the time and money spent helping people or civic causes he believed in His wife was known to say of his mayoralty. "It's his most expensive hobby" It would be diffucult to name a board in the borough on which he did not at some time serve. He inlisted and worked with young people to preserve the dunes, he helped found the Avalon Resque Squad and the Bay Park Marina and donated the trees for the park at 74th Street which was dedicated to and named for his wife. His generosity was boundless, his accomplishments legion and his memory will live always in those he befriended
