By Libby Demp Forrest THE FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY will keep everybody stepping this week. I 'The day itself commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which means that the Fourth of July is about as American as you can get There'll be ceremonies aplenty with all the speeches you care to hear. The big event tho for most people is the fireworks. Here's to the Fourth of July! * » * There's a sweet, pungent fragrance that always seems to hover in the air during the summertime when freshly cut grass wilts in the hot sunshine. The staccato, monotone song of the lawn mower always seems to start up whenever we decide to take a nap on a suHimer afternoon or early evening. V But we won't complain - because that sound and the sound of screen doors open- ■ ing and closing spell S-U-M-M-E-R, and ■ who's going to complain about that? i * * * THERE'S getting to be more and more to do each day, what with concerts, special events, children's programs and ■I what have you. There's something for B everybody out there, youngster, oldster, Bj and beach bum. And if you don't feel like doing much of anything, that's okay, too. Isn't that what vacations are for? * * * Eating out is a biggie with us, especially in the good old summertime. Here are some of the places we've been this week: ROSY'S. Everything is coming up Rosy's at 412 Bank Street, Cape May, a delightful new restaurant that just openL, m

ed in one of those charming gingerbready houses that line this little byway. We had a wonderful evening out at Rosy's the other night and enjoyed the tasty Mac's Chicken (breast of chicken baked in parchment paper) while The Hubby enjoved Scallops Pralene (scallops in blue cheese sauce). For dessert we enjoyed Lazy Chocolate Cream and Hubby had the Strawberry Mousse. You'll sing the praises of Rosy's too once you enjoy a night out there. • * * ' THE GOLD WHALE. The Gold Whale Restaurant and Lounge, located at the Marquis de Lafayette Inn, at 501 Beach Drive, Cape May is offering a whale of a special anniversary night. Guests are invited to dine and dance (dinner for two costs just $9.95 including a glass of wine) through July 5th. The Peter Anthony Quartet handles the entertainment niche just fine while the master chef prepares your dinner to order. Don't hesitate to take advantage of this specially priced night out. Reservations are limited to the first 30 tables — call 884-3431. * * * THE BACK YARD. The Back Yard Restaurant at 220 81st StreetyStone Har- • bor offers some of the best (bod around, even in the diner's paradise of Stone Harbor. We slipped over the other evening to enjoy the Fruitti de Mer (sauteed lobster, crab and scallops in cream sauce with lemon and thyme) while Hubby enjoyed Filet Mignon and Crab (lump crabmeat on top filet with bearnaise sauce). Also recommended is the Fettuccini and Chicken (sauteed chicken in a cream sauce of artichoke, olives and mushrooms over fettuccini). The veal dishes are exceptional. -r- — 7 * • * ^ /

THE GOLDEN INN. No matter how good all the local restaurants keep getting, The Golden Inn on the ocean front at 78th Street, Avalon still reigns as one of Cape May County's premier dining spots. Chef Roger Guignard, originally from LaRochelle, France is now at your service, preparing the Golden Inn's classic cuisine even better than ever. Our favorite dishes are the Veal Piquante (milk-fed veal medallion sauteed in lemon butter) and Broiled Seafood Combination (a symphony of Oyster Schueller, Clams Casino, Jumbo Shrimp, Flounder, Crab Imperial and Scallops). Our favorite dessert is the apple strudel with whipped cream a la mode. Everything we've tried at the Golden Inn is excellent. * * * THE OTHER ROOM. The Other Room sounds a little like a mystery drama, but we can assure you there's no mystery about The Other Rooms' delightful dining atmosphere and house specialties. Under the experienced hand of the Carney family, the Victorian Pub atmosphere comes alive with fine food and " B superb entertainment. The New York Sirloin Strip Steak is unmatched good S eating. The Vegetable Jardiniere is a garden fresh medley of assorted vegetables steamed and sauteed to perfection, served with a stuffed artichoke. The lobster and shrimp scampi served on a bed of rice is worth investigating too. The Irish-American piano bir is better than ever.
