By Libby Demp Forrest HOW ABOUT a nice cool lemonade, a H little light reading and a July afternoon I on the porch? Or how about a July afterI noon on a pleasant beach? Or how about a I July afternoon under a shady tree in the H back yard? We'll take any or all of the above. How ■ about you? * * * With mid-July coming up, there's an inRl teresting lot of wild flowers beginning to I bloom. Look for evening primrose, ] milkweed, goldenrod, and Philadelphia HI lily. Mid-July finds bird song still continuI ing. Dawn and the first robin notes still ] arrive together. But the morning sun is I much briefer than a month or two months ■I ago. * * * ONE of our favorite things to do on a July evening is to go for a walk on the boardwalk, any boardwalk, but we have to admit as Cape May dwellers, we especially enjoy our little town. On the other hand, what compares with a walk on the Wildwood boardwalk? And then there's the Ocean City boardwalk. And so M on and so on. Each has its' own fun and things to do (of not do) orice you get walking. With all the hustle bustle that summertime brings, don't forget to take a breather now and then. (This is our advice to the locals who have to hustle these summer months.
One of the best ways to get out and enjoy one's self is to go out to eat. Here are some of the places we've been to this week: SEASHORE SALAD BAR. Located on the Circle Mall at 21st and Dune Drive, Avalon, this light-hearted sidewalk cafe is a pleasant place to lull away a little time while enjoying a casual snack. No preservatives or additives are included in the foods at the Seashore Salad Bar. There are over 25 different salad toppings — you are sure to find one that suits you perfectly. The salad bar is a major attraction, but the home style soups, sandwiches and fresh fruits are refreshing too. Call 967-5472 for a take-out to carry along to the beach. • * * VINNIE'S OF PHILADELPHIA. One great restaurant often leads to another, and Vinnie's of Philadelphia, a famous name in the northeast section of that city, had its' grand opening at a brand new shore location just last night. Located at 926 Asbury Avenue, Ocean City, Vinnie's is serving specially crafted seashore foods as well as the delicious dishes that Philadelphians have cherished over the years. Especially recommended is the Shrimp and Scallop Scampi, in white wine and lemon sauce sei ved over a bed of rice with a side of spaghetti. The cheesecake makes a divine dessert. Vinnie's is also open for breakfast and lunch. For reservations call 398-8726. * * * OBADIAH'S. There's something for everybody at Obadiah's where fine dining
in a Victorian setting is aimed to please even the heartiest of appetites. Located on Roosevelt Boulevard in Marmora, it is staffed by some of the nicest employees around. The setting is uniquely South Jersey with touches of the past we always enjoy so much. The Hubby finds the choice of brews to be one of the best available locally. We both agree the food is just about perfect. The Bouillabaise, Obadiah's version of the famous French seafood stew is a work of art. It includes shrimp, scallops, claws, mussels, lobster and fish in a savory broth, served with a crusty bread. We take turns ordering it so each of us can sample. * * * S.A. WADE TAVERN. On the corner of 1st and New Jersey avenues in North Wildwood, the S.A. Wade Tavern offers really delicious selections in a relaxing, old-fashioned atmosphere. We have to tell you the S.A. Sampler keeps us coming back time after time. It includes potato skin, stuffed mushroom, barbecued shrimp and rib, a nice little appetizer or small meal, depending on how you like to do it. Hubby likes the Fried Maryland Crab Cake. All entrees include a bowl of fresh tossed salad, homemade hot biscuits, family style veggies and a Tavern potato. Desserts are homemade daily by Jennifer.
