Atlantic Electric Hearing Set

PLEASANTVILLE - Public hearings on Atlantic Electric 's request for a twophase $91.9 million rate increase will be held in four South Jersey locations. On Tuesday. July 23, a hearing will take place in Ocean City from 2 to 4 at the Ocean City Intermediate

School multipurpose room, 18th and Bay Avenues. The company's two-part request was filed with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) on April 26. PHASE I OF the request asks for $63.3 million to cover increased operating expenses and investments in plant and equipment, and would go into effect by I January. 1986. 1 Phase II requests $28.6 f million to cover the company's five percent share of the Hope Creek nuclear gen- > era ting station, and would - go into effect when the plant , begins commercial operation in mid to late 1986. Phase 1 would raise resi- ' dent ial rates by 11.2 to 13.6 percent, and Phase II by 3 to , 4percent, depending on use Tne net effect of the combined increase on residential customers would be 14 2 to 17.6 percent increase, based on usage.
