Lady Bears Win 15-13 CAPE MAY - In Women's Softball League action, the U.S.C.G. Sugar Bears defeated Quo Vadis 15-13 in eight innings. The Coast Guard team was led by Sheila Edwards and Debbie Winslow . who had a home run apiece. Gloria Cassidy had a good game as she had 3 hits for the winners. In other games. Vance's Bar defeated the Sugar Bears 14-0, led by shortstop Kym Delias, who played her usual outstanding defensive game. Soccer Shootout STONE HARBOR - The borough soccer league opened its league Monday. July 8. with the Gold Diggers playing the Green Hornets. Goalies Kris Kalnis and Jason Kelsey for the Gold Diggers and Lee Russell for the Green Hornets played perfect games, causing an 0-0 tie at the end of regulation. The first shoot-out ended in a tie with Wayne V'oltz, Doug llalbert. and Joe Sparta scoring for the Hornets. Scoring for the Diggers were David Kohn. Jennifer Eggert and Shawn McCormack. In the second shootout Stephen Frank scored for the Hornets but that was equaled by J. P. Gallagher. The score remained tied until the Hornet's 12th shooter. Brian James, broke the tie by playing the in the upper left hand corner of the goal for a victory.

50 Boats » Ready for Tournament STONE HARBOR - Fifty offshore fishing boats will participate in the 29th Annual Cape May County White Marlin Tournament Thursday. One of the oldest of its kind on the EasT Coast, the tournament is sponsored annually by the Jersey Cape Sportfishing Tournament committee and county freeholders. The sportfishing event opens with a registration dinner at the Stone Harbor Yacht Club Thursday. Fishing days are Friday, and Saturday with Sunday an alternate fishing day if the tournament is cancelled either of the first two days because of weather. An awards dinner is set Sunday at the Golden Eagle Hotel in Cape May. Anglers will compete for boat awards and team prizes. Boats may combine to form a team of up to four entries. Awards will also be presented for the largest tuna, with a minimum of 25 pounds; dolphin, wahoo and blue marlin. Individual citations and plaques will be presented to every angler catching a white marlin. Boats may leave any county port for the first day of fishing, but they must lay over at Cape May for that night. Tournament headquarters is the South Jersey Marina. Dockside Activities are scheduled there for crews. Crews may include up to six anglers, and the boat can fish five rods.
