Dumping Extension Deplored
WASHINGTON, D C. - Congressman Bill Hughes ( D-NJ ) has expressed disappointment with an Environmental Protection Agency announcement that sludge dumping 12 miles off the New York-New Jersey coast will be permitted for another two and one-half years. Hughes, who authored a 1977 law to prohibit ocean disposal of harmful sewage sludge, said that big dumpers have already had enough time to develop alternative plans. THE DUMPERS have been on notice since 1977 that we want to end this practice, which has created a virtual dead sea just a few miles off our coastline," Hughes said. "Yet, there has apparently been no preparation whatsoever by the dumpers, with the result that this practice will continue for another 30 months. "I am very disappointed that EPA has ratified this footdragging by granting the dumpers even more LCMK Sets Deadline To Sign Up ERMA — Lower Cape May Regional High School will register new students in the high school guidance office Mondays through Fridays 8a.m. to 2 p.m. until Tuesday, Aug. 20.
