Parades Spotlight Boats and Babies

OCEAN CITY - Two of this resort's most popular special events will highlight mid-summer here. "Night In Venice," a boat parade and bay celebration with attracts over 100,000 spectators, is set for 6 p.m. Saturday. The city's 76th annual Baby Parade, oldest on the Jersey Shore, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug 8. Night In Venice will feature over 100 decorated boats which sail in and out of lagoons from the Long Port Bridge to Tennessee Avenue near 22nd Street. Boats are judged in various categories and prizes awarded for best decorated, best lighted, most original, etc. BAY FRONT and lagoon homes are also decorated, with homeowners providing elaborate and humorous displays which are also judged for prizes. Venice, selected by money votes for the benefit of the Ocean City Rescue Squad. Entry forms for boat and home competitions are available at city information centers and marinas. Over 300 children ranging from infants to 10 years are expected to participate in the annual Baby Parade from 6th to 12th Street on the Boardwalk. Entrants will be pushed along in strollers and carried by protective parents. MANY ARE dressed in colorful costume and there's bound to be a "Little Bo Peep" and/or a miniature "Pete" Rose somewhere in the crowd. Grand marshal will be A1 Alberts, TV personality, who stars in a children's talent show in Philadelphia. Prizes will be awarded in comic and fancy divisions according to age. Entry forms are available at city information centers or by contacting the Public Relations Department, City Hall, Ocean City. N.J. 08226. The Circus Is Coming To Park COURT HOUSE - It will be a case of animals helping animals when Circus USA is presented at the Cape May County Park here Wednesday, Aug. 7. Trained domestic and wild animals, including a performing elephant, will entertain at the circus, with proceeds going to feed the animals in the county park zoo. Featured in the circus this year are the James Zoppe-Rosenback Riders, a bareback troupe. An advance sale of tickets at reduced prices is now in progress throughout the area.
