You're Under Arrest (Columbia) is a solid, if unexceptional, effort from Miles Davis, the man many consider the greatest jazz trumpeter who ever lived. On the plus side, these tracks are entertaining, with excellent solos, especially those from guitarists John Scofield and John Scofield and John McLaughlin. Many of the numbers are based on K&B patterns resulting in a delightful fushion of pop and jazz. As can be expected. Mile's solos are clear and powerful. The drawbacks are few and will bother only longtime Davis' fans. You're Under Arrest is conventional. with Miles taking few chances. HE'S NOT living on the edge with this album. His solos, as good as they are. lack the anger and torment that have always been vital aspects of his playing. Don't misunderstand me. this is a highly enjoyable record that's been finding a lot of time on my turntable, but it's not going to shape the future of jazz. Then again, with such a glorious body of work, it's unfair to constantly ask so much of Miles Davis. ONE OF TIIE MOST most exciting albums I've heard in recent months is The Lost Weekend (A&M> by Danny and Dusty No. this isn't a new duo. hut. instead. the moniker taken by members of three up-and-coming bands. The • Long Kyders. Dream Syndicate. and Green On Red. who got together to cut some tracks for fun Most of this is countrytinged rock and roll, with some dynamite tunes and exquisite playing. These friends are having a good time and I think most listeners will have no trou ble joining in with them. Please A&M. let's consider a follow-up for Danny & Dusty ON THE subject of country rock. Los Angeles' Lone Justice have a charming debut on Geffen. Fronted by the charismatic Maria McKee. Lone Justice is able to overcome the few weak tracks that slightly mar this first effort. Her voice is powerful and hauntingly enticing It's easy to see why critics

have been desperately thinking up new superlatives to describe her. Of course. Maria benefits from a tight, understanding band. Lone Justice are easily one of the most promising bands to emerge this year. CULT STAR Nils I.ofgren certainly reaches more people since becoming Bruce Springsteen's lead guitarist, but unfortunately. he's not taking advantage of his new audience. as Flip (Columbia) is one of his weakest solo efforts. Lofgren is an amazingly lyrical guitarist and a singer with a sly. somewhat punkish. delivery, yet here he allows his music to be buried beneath layers of synthesizers and keyboards, ruining what could have been an excellent album. This is no time for Lofgren to be modest SIC Baby Parade Is Aug. 3 SEA ISLE CITY The annual baby parade, complete with bands, floats and hundreds of youngsters, will take place on the Promenade on Saturday.
