Alternate 'C' Has Towns' Support
The administrations of Middle Township and North Wildwood are joining forces in urging residents and other interested people to advocate recommendation of Alternate Route "C" for Route 147 by the Department of Transportation. Two additional hearings on the proposal have been scheduled by the DOT. to be held in the Middle Township Elementary School Aug. 28 and 29. TIMES ON those days have been set at 1 to 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 11 p.m. A hearing was held in September of last year in North Wildwood. Both Michael J. Voll and l,ewis G. Vinci, mayors of Middle Township and
North Wildwood, have indicated that the upcoming hearing is a critical step in the establishment of better traffic patterns between their two constituencies. Resolutions were passed to this effect by both administrations in the past. ADMINISTRATORS, residents and travelers are fearful that if Alternate Route "C" is not recommended at this time additional studies will be necessary because of environmental problems. They say that these studies will cost millions of dollars, leading to increased construction costs because of the time required to do the studies. NORTH Wildwood Councilman Anthony Visalli, who claims improved con-
ditions for Route 147 have been sought for "over 30 years", said this week that "this link between Middle Township and North Wildwood is long overdue, and any delay at this point would be foolish and disastrous." An informational and action movement, spearheaded by the North Wildwood Tourist Development Commission and its chairman, George Yencsik, has made available petitions and post cards which may be signed in favor of Alternate Route "C" These will be presented to the DOT at the hearings Aug. '28 and 29. In addition, an information line has been set up in North Wildwood City Hall - 522-2030.
